WINSLOW VICTIM OF ACCIDENT Well-Known Power Company Employee Killed in Motorcycle Collision Roland L. Winslow, 35, well known resident of Smithfield, and superintendent of the Virginia Electric and Power Company's ice plant at Smithfield since 1926, was instantly killed Friday morning on the Suffolk-Smithfield highway at Chuckatuck, when the motorcycle on which he was riding crashed into the rear of a truck owned by C.T Pruden, of Chuckatuck, and driven by George Batten, negro. Mr. Winslow had been to Suffolk and was returning to Smithfield and the fatal accident occurred in Chuckatuck. The accident victim was thrown with great force from his machine and was dead when the onlookers rushed to his side. The motorcycle was completely wrecked and the rear wheels of the truck were crushed. The accident was investigated by Sheriff E.B. Rawles of Nansemond County and by county Officers J.C. Taylor and A.C. Rawles and State traffic Sergeant Forbes. Mr. Winslow is survived by is wife and three children, Carlton, Aubrey and Elizabeth Winslow; his father, J.A. Winslow, and his step-mother, Mrs. Winslow; a brother Harvey Winslow, all of Smithfield, and a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Clyde Gray, of Eclipse, Nansemond. Funeral services for Roland L. Winslow, 35, who was accidently killed Friday, were held Sunday at the Smithfield Baptist Church of which he was a member of The Men's Baraca Bible Class, with the Rev. L.F. Paulette officiating. All seats in the church were filled and others were standing in the rear and vestibule. Florial offerings were many and beautiful. Mrs. J.H. Carter and Mrs. Edson Skeeter, of Rescue, sang "Good Night Here But Good Morning Up There," accompanied by Mrs. L.F. Paulette at the organ. A quartette composed of Rev. F.B. Oglesby, Rev. L.F. Paulette, Talmadge and Carl Gwaltney sang "In The Land Where They Never Grow Old." The same two ladies who sand the first duet sang "There Are No Disappointments in Heaven." Active pallbearers were L. Reid Carlisle, Jr., E.T. Swink, C.F. Joyner, F.U. Ross, W.G. Pearson and J.H. McLemore. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Wilson Ames, V.J. Joyner, T.C. Lawson, Frank Carter, Dr. Rea Parker and Dr. T.H. Massey. Among the people from out of town who attended the services were: Captain and Mrs. W.B. Lawson and son, T.C. Lawson and daughter Norma Lawson, Highland Park, Portsmouth, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Fulgham and son Thomas and daughter Delmar; Norman Gimbert, Willoughby Beach; Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Bassett and daughter Doris, Mr. Alison and Miss Bessie Clarke, of Norfolk; Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Clarke and daughter Frances, Battery Park, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Joyner, Elizabeth City, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. W. Brown, Suffolk; Mr. and Mrs. T.L. Clarke, Baltimore, Md. A number of the deceased relatives of Corapeake, N.C. were also present. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
