I John Applewhite being very sick and weak though of perfect Mind and memory do Constitute and Ordain this my last Will and Testament. First I bequeath to Almighty God my soul who is my Creator and Redeemer and my body to be decently laid in the Earth and after all my lawful debts of right be paid and my Funeral expenses complied with all I give, the rest of my Estate which God hath blest me with as followeth Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah Applewhite my Negro Wench Frank, and one Negro boy called Cofey with the proviso she should not have any issue by me but if she should have a child by me either Son or Daughter it is my Will that the above mentioned Negroes Cofey and Frank and her increase shall fall to my Child which my wife is with at the age of eighteen years old. I give and bequeath unto my dear and beloved wife my desk and all that is therein and my little black trunk and one gilded trunk and my riding horse and likewise my horse colt and my yoke of Oxen. Item- I give and bequeath unto my loving sister Ann Applewhite my Negro boy called Esses after my mother’s decease provided she never comes upon my wife for any debts dues or demands due her from me and that she pay unto the Heirs of Mary Benn one thousand pounds of tobacco given me by deceased father out of the Negro boy Item- I give and bequeath unto my loving bother Thomas Applewhite one Silver Hilted Sword, Pistolls and Holsters. Item- I give unto my loving sister Holland Copeland one cow to be paid her out of the share of Stock given me by my father. Item- I give and bequeath unto my loving sister Martha Weston one cow to be paid her out of the share of the Stock given me by my father. Item- I give unto my loving friend, Thomas Copeland, my Porrianger I likewise give unto my loving wife all the share of my stock cattle, sheep and hogs and all my share of household goods given me by my deceased father. And lastly I do appoint my dear and beloved wife Sarah Applewhite and my loving friend Henry West my Executrix and Executor of this my last will and Testament revoking disannulling and making void all other wills hereto fore made by me. As witnessed by hand and Seal this 20th day of December 1735 John Applewhite Test Peter Best Thomas Copeland At a Court held for Isle of Wight County, Feb. 23, 1735 the last Will and Testament of John Applewhite deceased was presented in court by the Executors therein named who made oath thereto according to law and being proven by the oaths of the witnesses there to it is admitted.
