Isle of Wight County, VA Wills, Deeds, Etc., Book 2, 1661-1719, pp. 633-634. 
Devised December 19, 1712, 
Proven February 25, 1717. 


In the Name of God Amen I William Bodie of the Isle of Wight County being Sick 
& weak of Body but of Sound & pfect mind and memory do make this my last will 
and Testament in manner & form following that is to Say First & principally I 
give and bequeath my Soul into ye hands of almighty God my maker & Redeemer 
Christ Jesus hoping through his merits Death & passion to have full pardon and 
Remission for all my Sins and my body I Commend to the earth To be Decently 
buried at ye Discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as for my worldly 
Estate which it hath pleased God to Lend me in this world I Give and dispose 
of as followeth after my Debts & Legacies paid. 

Item I Give and bequeath to my Grandson Wm Brown one Shilling. 

Item I Give & bequeath unto my GrandSon Thomas Brown one Shilling and also I 
Do Give and bequeath unto all their Sisters my Grand Daughters one Shillings a 
piece. 

Item I Give & bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Matthews ten Thousand pounds 
of Tobacco as also one feather bed & bolster one Rugg one pair of Blanketts or 
Sheetes. 

Item I Give & bequeath unto my Loving Son John Bodye all my lands houses 
orchards & plantation with their appurtenances to him and his heires for Ever 
Excepting my now wife Mary her thirds During her Naturall Life but in Case my 
Son John Should Dye without Issue or without Disposing of the Sd Land by will 
or otherwise then I Give the Sd Land to my Daughter Elizabeth Matthews and her 
heires for ever.

Item I Give & bequeath unto my Dear & Loving Wife Mary one third part of My 
Personall Estate to be Delivered to her in Specie and as for other two thirds 
I Give & Devise the Same to my loving Son John Bodie Whom I Do appoint Whole & 
Sole Executor of this my Last will and Testament hereby Revoking all former 
wills by me Made In Witness where of I have hereunto Sett my hand and Seal 
this 19th day of December 1712.

At a Court held for Isle of Wight County ye 25th of ffebruary 1717. 
The Last Will and Testament of Wm Bodie was psented in Court by the Execurs 
Who Made oath thereto & being proved in Court by oaths of H. Lightfoot & 
Joseph Chapman two of the Witnesses admitted to Record.
