ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - WILLS - William CLAY 10 Jan 1676 ----¤¤¤---- [p.] 138 In the Name of God Amen, I William CLAY of the Isle of Wight County, being Sicke & Weake in body but in p/fect Sence & memorie, doe here make & ordaine, this my last Will & Testam.t as followeth, first I bequeath my Soule to Almighty God, Who gave it mee, Trustinge in his manifold mercies, that he will wash away all my Sinns out of his Remembrance, through the Merritts & blood of his deere Sonne, Jesus Christ, & my body to the Earth, from Whence it was taken, to be buried, in decent Christian, buriall, As for my Worldly and Temperall Estate, I ordaine in manner & form followinge, Imp'mis it is my Will to give, Unto my Cuzin Thomas; the Sonne of my brother Thomas CLAY, one flock[?] Bedd, w.th boulster & blankett; Item I give & bequeath, Unto Mary, the youngest daughter of Henry REYNALLS [REYNOLDS] one porringer, & a cowe calfe; in case it be recovered, from the Widdowe, further I doe give to my Brother John my box, that was my fathers box w.th lock & key, & a broad Cloth Coate, & a paire of breeches, After my death, & things Settled; It is my Will, that the first Mare Coult, that the Widdowes Mare doth bring, that is my due, bee delivered Unto my Brother John his daughter Elizabeth CLAY; Item it is my Will, my lands redowne to my daughter Elizabeth CLAY, my Wife Judith CLAY, haveing her life therein, And as for all my Whole Estate as Chattles, or hoggs, howsehold stuff, or any other thinge belonginge to mee, the aforesaid Will'm: CLAY To be equally devided, betweene my deere Wife, Judith CLAY, & my deere Child, After my debts be paid; I doe Alsoe ordaine that my deere Wife, Judith CLAY, be my Whole Executrix & Administrato:r of this my Will to see it Executed, As Witness my hand & Seale, this Tenth day of January 1675 [1675/6] ~/ Signed & Sealed in the p'sence of Us/ W:m CLAY /Siggill:/ George HARDY Senio:r Thomas BAKER / This Will is proved by the oath of M.r George in open Co.rt held for the Isle wight County this, 17:th day of February 1675; And then Recorded p/ Me John JENINGS' Clr Recordr Isle of Wight Co., VA, Record of Wills, Deeds, Etc., Vol. 2 (1661-1719), p. 138 The Library of Virginia, Isle of Wight Co.
