Devised July 15, 1698, Proven September 9, 1698. July ye 15th in ye yeare of our Lord 1698 In the Name of God Amen, I Owen Griffeth of ye Isle of Wight County now being very sick and weak but praise be to god in perfect memory doe make this my Last will and testimony as followeth to Say before all Earthly things I commend my Soul to Almighty God My Master and Jesus Christ his Son my only Saviour hoping and believing through his mercies to attaine Everlasting Life Salvation and yt Shall be Numbered Among the Chosen Elected. Thus I dispose and settle My Estate As followeth, first I give My daughter Ann Griffeth ye second best bed I have She to have it in her custody As Soon As my Will is proved with A pair of sheets and A pair of Blanketts And Rugg with it and If please God She Shall Live to Marry, I give her a brass Kettle and A Small Iron pott and pott hookes and A pewter bason, two Large broad pewter dishes and Small brasse Mortar and pesell and one dozen of Spoons and A Large Plane Chest which I have usually Called Mine or A Smaller Chest which she will Make Choice of and A yeare old horse Colt which of ye two my wife shall think fitt of, Also I give her A young Cow. Alsoe I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah Griffeth As followeth: A bed and A pair of blanketts and Rugg And one Iron pott hookes with it and two pewter Dishes and A small pewter bason and one dozen of spoons, alsoe I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah Griffeth If my mare should Live to bring one Colt Lett it be horse or mare Colt. Alsoe I give her A Cow or A Heifer which my Wife shall please to doe. Alsoe I give her A pine Chest with Lock and Kae but if are A one of them should dye As God forbid then what I have gave to She yt is deceased to fall to ye other and if please God both of them Should Dye As God forbid then to be Equally divided between my three Sons to Say Edward Griffeth And Owen Griffeth And Jno Griffeth. I give and bequeath unto my Son Owen Griffeth all my horse, Armes, pistolls, and houlsters, and kutless and my muskett. I give and bequeath unto my Son Edward Griffeth A Cow to be delivered to him at ye fall next ye Cow yt we usually Call Madam. Alsoe I give to my GrandSon Jno Griffeth and to my Grandaughter Patience Griffeth Each of them A Cow Calfe when My Wife shall see fit or have them to dispose of. I give and bequeath unto my Son Jno Griffeth All my wearing apparell of Wollen Cloths And one of My best Shirts. I give unto Margaret Edwards A 2 yeare old heifer when She Shall Call for it. I give and bequeath unto Judy Edwards A Cow Calfe when My [Wife] Shall See fit. It is my will yt My Wife Should be my [W]holl Extr to doe and Act in my Estate As A Extr ought to doe and ye Remaining part of my Estate I give to my Loving Wife Mary Griffeth after My Legacies Are paid. I give unto my Son in Law Wm Jnoson twellf pence for to Cut him of that mentionable my Extr for what I designe to give him with Daughter I have gave him Already.
