ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - WILLS - John Haile, the Elder, 21 Jan 1792 ----¤¤¤---- From Isle of Wight County, Wills and Accounts No. 10 1785-1796, page 297: In the name of God amen. I John Haile the elder of the County of Isle of Wight being in perfect health praised be God, do make this my last Will and Testament as followeth --- Imprimis I lend unto my loving wife Hannah Haile the plantation I now live on, also five Negroes (Viz.6) Jimmy, Silvia, Esther, David and Dick, during her natural life. Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Hannah Haile one feather bed and furniture, one horse bridle, one cart and wheels, two cows and calves, two sows and pigs, one square walnut table, two large pewter dishes, two pewter basins, half a dozen spoons, half a dozen pewter plates, one spinning wheel, one pair cards?, one iron pot, one frying pan, one box iron heater, one looking glass, half a dozen of sitting chairs, one pine chest with a lock and key, one small trunk and two earthen bowls --- Item I give unto my son Simon Haile, all of the plantation I now live on at the decease of my wife, also one cross cut saw, one gun, one large bowl, and one small walnut table, to him and his heirs forever, one oval table, two pewter dishes, one punch bowl, one honey jug forever --- Item I give and bequeath unto my grandaughter Lavina Bracey one feather bed, one pine chest, and one reed trunk to her and her heirs forever, Item I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Haile or heirs the sum of five shillings forever, -- Item I give and bequeath unto John Haile Junior deceased, being my son, the sum of five shillings forever -- Item I give and bequeath unto my son in law Solomon Bracey the sum of five shillings to him and his heirs forever -- Item I give and bequeath unto Morris Hatchell, William Hatchell, Peter Hatchell, Simon Haile, Diana Hatchell, at the decease of my loving wife Hannah Haile their equal parts of the above Negroes (Viz. 6), Jimmy, Silvia, Esther, David and Dick to them and their heirs forever -- Item and my desire is that all my estate that is not heretofore given away is for my son Simon Haile and Elizabeth Haile that they should have an equal part of the same at the death of myself --- I do hereby certify that the within is my last Will and Testament and do hereby constitute the same and I do hereby appoint my loving wife, Hannah Haile, administratrix and Simon Hail Executor to the said Will -- Given under my hand this twenty first day of January one thousand seven hundred and ninety two. William (his mark) Moody At a court held for the County of Isle of Wight this 1st day of September 1794 --- This will was presented in Court by Hannah Hail and Simon Haile the Executors therein named who made oath thereto according to law and the same being proved by the oaths of Joseph Carpenter, William Segoer? and William Moody the witnesses thereto and ordered to be Recorded. And on the motion of the said executors who together with William Edward their security entered into and acknowledges their bond in the penalty of five hundred pounds with condition as the law directs.
