Will of Thomas Harris, 1672- Isle of Wight County, VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Record of Wills, Deeds, Etc., Vol. 2, p. 111 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets, line breaks, & surname capitalization mine] In the Name of God Amen, the one & thirtieth day of March in the year of our lord God 1672 I Thomas HARRIS, being of Whole mind, And in good & pfectt remembrance thanks & prays be unto Almighty God, make & ordaine this my last Will, in manner & forme followinge, That is to say, ffirst I Comend my soul unto Almightie God, my maker & redeemer, & my body I to the Earth, to be decently buried, And as for my Worldly Estate, Wh God hath blest me wth, I dispose of as followeth/ Imp'mis for the land Wh I now live uppon, It is my Will & desire, that the same shall equally devided, betweene my two sonnes, John & Thomas HARRIS, And both of them to live upon it/ Item for my land, Wh I have att the Indian Towne, Wh is in quantitie, two hundred & sixtie Acres, wh doth properlie belong to me, I give & bequeath, the said land, to my sonne Thomas HARRIS & his heires forever/ Item for my land in Corotoman, in the County of Lancaster, beinge seaven hundred Acres, I bequeath Unto my Eldest sonne, John HARRIS, & to his heires forever/ Item it is my Will, that if either of my sonnes should happen to dye & have not issue then the Survivinge sonne to Enjoy all my lands, herein mentioned, And [illegible] to belonge to him & his heires forever, but if my sonne John should happen to Marry & have Children, then What lands I have herein this my will bequeathed unto him shall of right belonge to him, & his heires lawfully begotten/ Item it is my Will, that my loving wife, Mrs: HARRIS shall live on my plantation I am now Seated on duringe her Naturall life, And not to be any Wise disturbed or molested by my sonnes as aforesaid, And to have her due part of all other, my lands herein bequeathed, duringe her life/ Item it is my Will, that an Iron Gray Mare, & a browne bay [illegible] & all theire increase, for a Joynt [illegible], for the use & benefit of ym Children Item I give & bequeath, unto my daughter Mary HARRIS, is she live to be married, [illegible], a fetherbedd & furniture, one brass Kettle of Sixteene gallon, three pewter dishes, [illegible], a Cow & calfe, and two heiffers/ Item I Will & ordaine my loving Wife, Mrs: HARRIS, to be Whole & Sole Executrix to this my last will & Testam:t, & have all the rest of my Estate, Wh I am now possessed wh att her [illegible] of the rest of my Children not mentioned in this [illegible] & proportion of my Estate/ Item I request & desire my loving friends Major Nicholas HILL & John JENNINGS to be overseers to See this my Last will & Testament performed, revoaking all other Wills Whatsoever, formerly by me made, to the [illegible] I hereunto sett my hand and seale; the day & yeare above Written/ Thos HARRIS/ Siggitt: Sealed & delivered in p'Sence of: ffrancis HOBBS Lewis ROGERS/ This Will is proved by the oathes of Cap;t ffrancis HOBBS and Lewis ROGERS in open Cort for the Isle of Wight County this tenth[?] day of June 1672 And then recorded: Jn:o JENNINGS Clr:Cur: Submitted by Matthew W.
