Will of Richard Izard, 1669 - Isle of Wight County, VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Record of Wills, Deeds, Etc., Vol. 2, p. 69 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets, line breaks, & surname capitalization mine] In the Name of God Amen, I: Richard IZARD, being Sick in Body but Sound and perfectt Memorie doe make this my last will & Testam.t: first I bequeath my Soul unto the Almighty God, hoping by the Meritts of my Savio'r Jesus Christ, to obtain forgiveness of my Sinns & eternal life; my body I bequeath unto the earth, to be buried in Christian like manner, And as for my worldly estate, I bequeath as followeth: (Viz.t) After my debts are fully Satisfied:/ Imp'mis I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Mary IZARD & Martha IZARD, Two thirds parts, of all my proper estate, either in lands, chattels or my other goods whatsoever belongeth unto me/ Item I Give & bequeath Unto my welbeloved wife, Rebeca IZARD, the other third part of my Estate, And if in case, that either of my daughters, Mary & Martha, Shall dye before they Came to Age That then my Will is that the Survivo'r of the aforesaid Mary & Martha, Shall have the aforesaid Two thirds parts of my estate wholly Solely, Only it is my will, that if Any one of my daughters by Surviving obtain the Two thirds of my Estate, as aforesaid, That then the daughter soe Surviving Shall pay out of the aforesaid Two thirds of my Estate, Unto James BAGNALL the sonne of James BAGNALL five thousand pounds of tabaco: Alsoe my Will is That my two daughters, Mary & Martha, remane w.th theire Mother and alsoe, the devident of my estate bequeathed as aforesaid, And She to have the custody of it, Untill they come to Age, likewise make my welbeloved wife Rebeca IZARD my whole & Sole Executrix: And my Will is that my Sonne in law, James BAGNALL, be overseer to this my will and Testament performed, In Witness whereof, I have hereunto Sett my hand & Seale this twenty second of May An:o Dom:i 1669; Richard IZARD Sigitt: I his mark Signed Sealed & delivered in ye p'Sence of: John BARNETT Richard ANGLES A his mark/ This Will is proved in the open Cort held for the Isle of Wight County this Ninth day of June 1669 By the oathes of M:r John BARNETT & Richard ANGLES, and then Recorded, V: me Jn:o JENNINGS Clr:Cur: [The bond of the executrix, widow Rebeca IZARD, from Governour Sir William BERKELEY, dated 23 Sep 1669, recorded 9 Jun 1669 (date of above probate) appears in the same volume, on the 2nd pagination p. 20, though nearly illegible.] Submitted by Matthew W.
