Amen. James JOHNSON of Isle of Wight County being Sick and Weak in Body but of Sound and perfect Memory, Praise be given to God for the same & calling to Mind the Mortality of my Body; and that it [is] appointed for all Men once to Die, Do make and Ordain this to be my last Will & Testament in manner and form as following Viz. First and Principally I commit my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God my Creator: assuredly believing that I shall receive full Pardon and free Remission of all my manifold Sins and Transgressions thro' the Merits of my only Lord & Saviour Christ Jesus. And my Body to the Earth whence it was taken to be buried in such Decent and Christianly manner by my Executor hereafter named shall seem fit. And as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath Pleased the Almighty God of his most Gracious and Bounteous Mercy to bestow on me in this Life, I give as followeth, (that is to say) Imprimis. My Will and Desire is that all such Debts & Dues and Demands as I owe in Right or Conscience to any Person or persons [page break] Persons whatsoever be well & truly Paid by my Executor hereafter named within Convenient Time after my Demise:- Item. I give unto my Grandson John CORBETT my Daughter Mary CORBETT Son one Shilling out of my moveable Estate & no more. Item. I give unto my Son James JOHNSON one Shilling out of my moveable Estate and no more. Item. I give unto my Daughter Martha MAYO One Shilling out of my moveable Estate and no more. Item. I give unto my Daughter Eleanor RICKS One Shilling out of my moveable Estate and no more. Item. I give unto my Grand Daughter Patience JOHNSON my Son John JOHNSON's Daughter one Shilling out of my moveable Estate & no more. Item. I give unto my Son Samuel JOHNSON one great Iron Pott, and one Pewter Dish and one Pewter Plate and half of the Increase of my Negro Wench from this Time to her Decease and no more. Item. I give unto my Son Richard JOHNSON the other half of my Negro Wench's Increase; and two Pewter Basons and one feather Bed and no more. Item. I give unto my Son Robert JOHNSON one Heifer out of my moveable Estate and no more. Item. I give unto my Daughter Grace POWELL two Cows & Calves out of my moveable Estate and no more. Item. I give unto my loving Wife Mary JOHNSON the Use of Negro Wench during my Wife's Life and then the Negro Wench to return to my Son Benjamin and his Heirs. And further my Will and desire is that my Wife should have half the Tobacco that is made on this Plantation every Year during her life: And further I give to my Wife three Cows and Calves and one feather Bed and two Sheets, Bolster; and Stead, and two Ruggs andfour Basons, and one Pewter Dish, and one Pewter Plate one Pewter Porringer and two Iron Potts and no more. Item. I give unto my Grand-Daughter Mary JOHNSON one Heifer out of my moveable Estate and no more. Item. I give unto my Son Benjamin my five young Negros, and all the remainder of my moveable Estate within Doors & without Doors to him and his Disposing. Item. I do hereby Revoke Disanull and [page break] and make Void all Wills, Testaments and Legacys by me heretofore made and do Declare this and no other to be my last Will & Testament. And lastly I do hereby Nominate & Appoint my Son Benjamin JOHNSON my whole Executor of this my last Will and Testament. Only my Will and Desire is that my Son James JOHNSON shaould have one of the three Cows and Calves & one of the four Basons and no more. And further my Will is that my Son Richard JOHNSON should have another of them Cows and Calves after my Wife's Decease and no more.
