All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ John JOHNSON (Sr.), will, 7 Jan 1703/4; proved 9 Aug 1707 Isle of Wight Co., VA, Record of Wills, Deeds, Etc., Vol. 2, p. 484 I John Johnson beinge very sick & Weak in Body but of sound perfect & disposing mind & memory, all thanks praise be given to Almighty God therefore; & calling to remembrance the frailty of human nature & certainty of death & incertainty of time where doe make Ordain & declare my last Will & Testam:t in manner followeth: that is to say: I Comend my Soul to God: the ffather of Spiritt, trusting & firmly beleiving thro ye merrit & bitter passion of my Saviour & Redeemer: Jesus Christ: to receive full pardon & remission for all my Sins, whensoever this mercifull life shall cease, And my body to be decently Interred after ye manner of X.tian Buriall, Att the descretion of my Ex.ex hereafter named: And what Worldly Estate it hath pleased God to possess me w.th, after all my Just debts & Funerall Charges is defrayed, I give bequeath & dispose as followeth: Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Martha ffifty Acres of Land I there showed her to her & her heires For-ever Male or Female, And all ye rest of my Land, w.th housing Fences & Orchard & all other ye Appertinances all w.th I give & to my Sonne John Johnson & his heires Forever Male or Female- Item I give & bequeath all my household goods att Blackwater, to my Daughter Martha, & to my Sonne John to be equally devided between them two, onely two Dishes & two plates more to my Sonne John; then to my Daughter, and my long Gun I give to my Sonne John & pistolls & Holsters & Rapier & Rideing Saddle and all my weareing apparrell both Lynon & Woolen- Item I give & bequeath to my abovesd Daughter & Sonne one shilling apeice of last Wifes Estate to Cutt them Off from any part or parcell of it- Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Patience Johnson Six Heiffers four of two yeares Ould & two of One year Ould, One feather bed & Boulster two Blanketts & A Rugg & ffive Sheep- Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Mary a ffeather bed furnished as it is now standing, & Six Heiffers, four of Two yeares Ould & two of One year Ould & five sheep & A Horse Colt of Two yeares Ould- Item I give & bequeath all ye remaining part of my Estate to my Dear & loveing Wife Mary making my sd loveing Wife, my whole & sole Ex.ex of this my last Will & Testam:t in Testimony of all w.ch I have hereunto sett my hand & seal this 7th of Jan'ry 1703- John Johnson *Seal* Signed, sealed & published & declared in ye p'sence of James Lupo I his mark Sarah Lupo + her mark Susanna Bracewell B her mark Proved in Open C't held for ye Isle of Wight County ye 9th of Aug.t 1707 by ye Oaths of James Lupo & Susanna Bracewell and Probate granted to the Ex.ex therein named.
