Will of James JOHNSON Sr., 1851 - Isle of Wight County, VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Will Book 24, p. 468 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets, line breaks, & surname capitalization mine] In the name of God Amen, I, James JOHNSON Sen.r of the County of Isle of Wight and state of Virginia, being this day in good health and sound mind do think proper to make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament in the following manner to wit: 1st: Item, I gave [underlined] to my son James JOHNSON a part of my FULGHAM's tract of land, and bounds [underlined] as follows, East by the lands of Hardy CHAPMAN, South by the lands of Exum L. CRUMPLER And by the main run of Black Water River to the north of the Horse swamp, thence up said swamp to a branch, thence up said branch to Exum L. CRUMPLER's line, I gave [underlined] said land to him and his heirs forever. 2.nd Item, I gave [underlined] to my son Arthur JOHNSON a part of my home tract of land & bounds [underlined] as follows by my FULGHAM's tract of land, by the lands of Exum L. CRUMPLER, and by the lands of Hardy CHAPMAN, I gave [underlined] said land to him and his heirs forever. 3r.d Item. I gave [underlined] to my son Lewis JOHNSON my CRUMPLER tract of land, & bounds [underlined] as followers, the line to commence at Black Water River and run as it formerly run, between my home tract and my CRUMPLER, ["tract" struck out], to the wods, thence a straight line to the road thence along said road to the horse swamp, thence up said swamp to Hardy CHAPMAN's line, thence along said CHAPMAN's line to the main run of Black Water River, to him and his heirs forever. 4.th Item. After paying all my just debts it is my will and desire that the residue of my estate be sold and equally divided between my three daughters namely Eliza JOHNSON, Susannah [underlined] JOHNSON, and Elizabeth JOHNSON to them and their heirs forever. 5th Item; I do appoint to this my last will my three sons James JOHNSON, Arthur JOHNSON, and Lewis JOHNSON my hole [underlined] and sole Executors, gaven [underlined] under my hand and seal this 2nd day of March 1850, James JOHNSON *Seal* Witness Lewis JOHNSON John STEPHENSON X his mark H. And on the motion of James JOHNSON and Arthur JOHNSON two of the Executors therein named (Arthur [sic] JOHNSON the other Executor refused to qualify) who made oath and with Exum L.
