Will of John Jones, Sr., 1697 - Isle of Wight County, VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Record of Wills, Deeds, Etc., Vol. 2, p. 385 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets, line breaks, & surname capitalization mine] Isle of Wight, In ye name of God Amen, I John JONES being blessed be God in health & perfect memory doe make & ordayn this my last Will & Testamt in manner & forme as followeth, First I bequeath my Soul into ye hands of Almighty God my maker, trusting through ye meritorious death of Jesus Christ my Saviour to receive pardon & forgiveness of all my sins and for my Body to be buried att the discretion of my Executrix hereafter nominated; And as for my worldly goods I give as followeth, I give unto my Sonne Abraham JONES Six hundred Acres of Land lyeing in ye Upper Parish att Blackwater to him & his Heires For ever lawfully begotten, also I give him one ffeather bedd, one Rugg & one pair of Blanketts, & one young Mare, & one Gunn & my Sword & belt; I give unto my daughter Anne ye Wife of Jno BARNES, one hundred & fifty Acres of Land att Blackwater Joyning on Mr William CHAMBERS, ye breadth on ye Swamp and the length by ye Outer Lyne, ye said Land to have during her life & after her decease, I give it to her sonne John BARNES to him & to his Heires For ever lawfully begotten, and if he should dye w.th out any such Heir, then to my daughters next Child & soe to ye Survivour, and if my daughter Should have not Children live to have such Heirs, then ye Land to fall to my sonne Abraham & to his Heires lawfully begotten, And two hundred Acres of Land lyeing in the Lower Parish I leave to my Wife's desposing to doe as shee pleases w.th it, and as for my personall Estate onely w.t I have given to my sonne Abraham, and Twelve pence I give to my sonne John JONES, I give to my loveing Wife Anne JONES, shee payeing my debts out of it, And I leave her my Sole Executrix to fulfill this my Will, but if my sonne Abraham shall dye w.th out lawfull Heires then my Will is that the Land I give him shall fall to my Daughter and to her Heires For Ever Lawfully begotten, as witnesss my hand & seal this 8th day of July 1697 John JONES Sen.r *Seal* Test John BLAKE Joshua TURNER Jun.r I his m'ke proved by all ye Witnesses Teste Cha' CHAPMAN Cl.Cur.
