[...] In the Name of God Amen I Karbry KIGAN of the Isle of Wight County being Sick in Body but in pfect Sense & Memory do Ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following. I Bequeath my Soul to God who Created it and Jesus Christ my Redeemer, and the Holy Ghost my Comforter humbly desireing that my Sins may be blotted Out by the Blood of that Immaculate Lamb X.t Jesus: My Body to be Buried in Xtian Burial; and as for my Worldly Goods. I Dispose thereof as followeth. [page break] [p.] 586 I do Bequeath unto my Loving Wife Catherine: KIGAN the Third Part of all my Estate Moveable & Immoveable, my Debts to be paid in the first Place. And in case that the Child my Wife now goeth with cometh to Perfection and be in Capacity to Inherit I Give & Bequeath the same all my Lands in the Isle of Wight County to that Child and its heirs for ever reserving to my said Wife the Thirds during her Natural Life. I do Ordain that if the said Child doth not come to the Capacity aforesaid, that all my said Lands & Teniments with the Appurtenances thereunto belonging or any ways Appertaining shall Enure and Belong unto Robert COWFEILD (the Son of Captain William COWFEILD) [COWFIELD, COFIELD] and his Heirs for ever. I do Give & Bequeath unto the s.d Robert COWFIELD all my Books my Rapiour and my Fowling Peice. I Give & Bequeath unto Elizabeth COWFEILD a Feather Bed and my new Cupboard. I Give & Bequeath unto Cap.n W.m COWFEILD my Seal Ring and to his Wife Ten Shillings to buy her a Ring. I Give & Bequeath to Katherine the Daughter of John TEW one Cow called by the Name of Star and Six Pewter Dishes. And to Elizabeth the Daughter of Cap.n W.m COWFEILD one Heifer called July and Six Pewter Dishes. I Bequeath to the Church of Isle of Wight One hogshead of Tobacco containing Three Hundred & Fifty I Give & Bequeath to John KING One Heifer that is with Calf called Young Star and I desire that he may be paid One Hundred & Fifty Pounds of Tobacco for the Work he done for me And I Ordain that John NORTON's ["Nortons"] Child shall have a Cow [illegible] Give unto my Country Man John ROGERS of the Middle Plantation Twenty Shillings to buy him a Ring Hereby and by these Presents [illegible] Wills & Testaments by me heretofore made 'till the day of the date hereof as Witness my hand & seal this 12 day of January Anno Domini 1657.
