Morgan botaus@aol.com March 9, 2011, 6:47 pm Source: Isle Of Wight Will Book 6, 1752-1760 Written: September 8, 1756 Recorded: June 2, 1757 Isle of Wight Will Book 6, 1752-1760 (Reel 25) Will of William Lawrence Written 8 Sept 1756 Recorded 2 June 1757 In the name of God Amen I William Lawrence of Isle of Wight County being Sick and weak in Body but of sound mind and Perfect Judgment and Memory Praise be given to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my Body and that it is appointed for all men once to die I do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and Form following Viz and Principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God - my Creator assuredly believing that I shall receive full Pardon and free Remission of all my manifold Sins and Transgressions through the Merits of my only Lord and Savior Christ Jesus and my Body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be Buried in such decent and Christianly manner as to my Executors - herein after Named shall soon meet and as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased Almighty God of his Gracious and Bounteous ______ to bestow on me in this life I give Devise and dispose of the same as followed that is to say -- Imprimis. I will and ordain that all such Debts Dues and Demands as I owe in right or Conscience to any manner of Person or Persons whatsoever be all and truly satisfied contented and paid by my Executors herein after named within convenient time after my Decease Item I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Penellope Lawrence on Negro Wench named Hagas and her Child named Moll and one bed quilt and one large Cedar Table and one side Saddle and Bridle called hers and so forth Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Son John Lawrence all my land that I hold at ___________that I bought of Colonel Bridger and if Joseph Bridger don’t make him a good title to the said Land then my son John Lawrence to have the Money for the said Bridgers Bond and my will and Desire is that my Wife Sarah Lawrence have the use of said Plantation until Son comes of age and further I give my son John all my land that I hold in Southampton County to him and his Heirs forever I give unto son John three negros Sambon (sic), Isaach and Judy and my Still ____ and ______ and further I give to my Son John one Bed and Rug and two Sheets and Bedstead and further I give to my son John one Riding Horse called his and my new bridle and Saddle and my Case of Pistols and one Sword and one Musket Gun and no more Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Molly Lawrence three Negros Dick and Vilet and Halday and one Bed and Furniture and one large oval Table and so forth Item I Give and bequeath unto my Daughter Ann Lawrence three negros Simon and Phillis and Pink and one Bed and One Rug and two Sheets and stead and Oval Table and so forth Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Salle Lawrence three Negros Vinus and her Daughter Vinus and Jacob and one bed and one Rug and two Sheets and one Ceder Table and so forth Item I give and Bequeath unto my son Miles Lawrence the Plantation whereon I now live on and all the land belonging to it after his Mothers Decease and if my Son Miles should live to come of Age and can’t live with his Mother my will and Desire he should go over the Branch and build on the land I bought of James Baker to him and his Heirs for Ever and further I give unto my Son Miles three Negros Dennis Patience and Cherry and one Bed and one Rug and two Sheets and one young Horse when he comes to the age of Eighteen and one Desk and four Leather Chears and one Case of Bottles and two Guns and so forth And I further Give unto my Four Daughters Forty Pound that is in the Hands of Mr. William Scott to be equally Divided amongst them with the Interest that shall heretofore arise on the said forty Pound and so forth I give and bequeath unto my Loving Sarah Lawrence seven Negros Lewis and Charles, Coffe, Cresant, Ned and Bess,Venus and one Chest of Drawers and six Chears and ten Silver Spoons and one Trunk and one Bed and Furniture and Twenty Pounds Cash and all my Horses and Mares and Saddles and Bridles and further my will and Desire that my well and Trusty Friend Richard Baker to get the Money that Thomas Davis owes me in North Carolina and to satisfy himself for his Trouble and when the Money is got my will is that you will pay it to my Executors and that they put the Money out upon Interest until my two Sons John and Miles comes of Age and then to be Equally Divided between them with the Interest and so forth and my will and Desire is that my Son John should have ten head of Cattle and two Sows and Piggs to be Delivered to him at the age of Eighteen and so forth, and Likewise to my will and Desire is that my son Miles should have ten Head of Cattle and two sows and Piggs to be delivered to him at the age of Eighteen and so forth and further my will and Desire is that All my Pewter and all my Iron Potts should be Equally Divided between my Wife and two Sons Item I give unto my Loving wife Sarah Lawrence all the Remainder of my moveable Estate within Doors and without Doors to her and her Disposing Item I do hereby revoke disavowal and make Void all Wills Testaments and Legacies by me heretofore made and do Declare this and none other to be my last Will and Testament and Lastly I do hereby Nominate and appoint my Loving Wife Sarah Lawrence and my Loving Brother in Law Arthur Applewhaite my sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
