Will of Robert Lawrence, 1743 - Isle of Wight County, VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Wills and Accounts Vol. 4 (1733-1745), pp. 522-23 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets & surname capitalization mine] [p] 522 In the Name of God Amen I Robert LAWRENCE of Newport Parish being very Weak in Body but of sound & Perfect Mind & Memory Praise be given to God therefore and Calling to Mind the incertainty of this Life do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testam.t in manner & form following First & Principally I commend my Soul into Hands of God that gave it and my Body to the Grave to be decently Buried in Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as for my Worldly Estate that it hath Pleased God to endue me withall after my Just Debts & Funeral Charges are Discharged I give the rest of my Estate in manner & form following. Imp:rs I give & bequeath the Land that I now live on to be equally Divided between my two Sons Hardy and Robert my Son Hardy to have the Plantation I now live on and if either of my two Sons afores.d shall be disposed to sell their Parts of the s.d Land my will and desire is that they give their Brother the refuse of the s.d Land I give it to them & their Heirs & Assigns forever and further my Will is that my Son Hardy pay Six Pounds Current Money to his Brother George, when he comes to the Age of Twenty one Years. And also my will is that my Son Robert do pay to his Brother Charles the like Sum of Six Pounds of Current Money when he comes to the Age of Twenty one Years & if either of my two Sons George or Charles should die before that they come to that Age his Right shall Determine: Item. I give to my Son Hardy one Young Horse Bridle & Saddle & one Gun & Sword two Sows & Piggs and one set of Iron Wedges. Item. I Give to my Son Robert one Mare & one Cow & Calf. Item I give to my Son George one Cow & Calf & two Leather Chairs one Black Walnut Table. Item. I give to my Son Charles four Leather Chairs & one small Cedar [p] 523 Table. Item I give unto my Daughter Sarah One feather Bed & Bolster & one Sheet & one Blanket & Bedstead & two Pewter Dishes one large & one small and Six Pewter Spoons. Item. I give to my Daughter Priscilla One feather Bed and two Pewter Basons one large & one small one and Six Pewter Spoons and one Iron Pott. Item all the rest of my Estate within Doors & without I give to my Loving Wife Ann LAWRENCE. My will farther is that my Wife Ann have the whole Right & Previledge of one half of the Plantation & Land for the Plantations Use during her Natural Life or the Time of her Widowhood & Benefits of the one half of the Orchards. Item.
