In the name of God amen the 18th of December in the year of the Lord God 1711. I Humphrey Marshall, being sick and weak of body but of perfect memory and mind, thanks be given to God, therefore, calling to mind the Mortality, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say first and Principally, I give my Soul into the hands of God who gave it to me and for my body I commend it to the Earth to be buried in Christian and decent manner and nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. ~d touching such worldly Estate wherein it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give devise bequeath and dispose the same in manner and form following. First-1 give and bequeath unto my grandson, Humphrey Scutchins, the one half of my Land in the woods joining upon John Marshall, to him and to his heirs forever. Item-1 give and bequeath to my grandson, Joseph Scutchins, the other half of my land in the woods to him and his heirs forever and that neither of my grandsons sell their land except to the other. Item- I give the land at the point where Thomas Hill lives to m~ daughter, Mary Hill, and her hairs forever. Item-1 give and bequeath the land where I now dwell to my grandson, Thomas Applewhite, his heirs forever. Item-1 give to my loving wife my Negro man Will and the Indian woman, Moll forever. Item-1 give to my daughter. Wary Hill, my Negro man, Peter, and my Negro woman. Marrow. Item-1 give and bequeath to my daughter, Ann Applewhite, my Negro boy, Dick, and little Saw. Item-1 give to my daughter Sarah Scutchins, my negro boy and my Indian, Mollie's child. Hose. Item-1 give to my wife three cows, a sidesaddle and the choice of my horses in the life other Dower and if my wife will not stand to this my will is that then the three cows, horses and sidesaddle be appraised in the rest of my estate. Item-1 give and bequeath unto John Thomas, the son of Elizabeth Thomas, my Indian woman, Moll, and one two year old mare which runs at the Point where Mr. Hill lives. Item-1 give unto Elizabeth Thomas ten pounds sterling for the bringing up other son, John Thomas, to be paid to her in goods at the (first?) cost in England or by Bills Exchange. Item-1 give to John Thomas three silver spoons of the best sort and my will is that my daughter, Mary Hill, have six pines of the plantation where I now live and six cypress trees of the land in the woods which I gave to my two grandsons Scutchins, and as for the rest of my Estate to be equally divided between my wife and three daughters, Sarah, Mary and Anne and it is my will that my place be equally divided above said and that my still be appraised with the rest of my estate and that Sarah Scutchins have the still in part other share in my Estate and that the rest of my Estate be appraised and that everyone so have their share in kind according as it is appraised and of this my last Will I make and ordained my well beloved son-in-law Henry Applewhite and Col. Sam Bridge my full and whose executors and I do hereby disannul all and every other former testaments.
