Isle of Wight County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Wills William PIERCE Sr., will, 1791 [margin note] W.m Pierce Sen.r} Will } In the name of God Amen I William Pierce Senior of the County of Isle of Wight Virginia, being very low and weak, but of perfect sound mind and memory thanks be to God, calling to mind the mortality of my body And knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make [&] ordain this to be my last Will and testament (Viz.t) principally and first of all I give and recommend [my] Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection, I shall receive the same again, by the mighty power of God; and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form ~ First, I give and bequeath my son William Pierce my plantation whereon I now live and the lands belonging thereto; also one negro man Lewis, one negro woman Louisa[?], one negro girl named Nanny to him and his heirs forever ~ Item I give and bequeath my grand son John Pierce my plantation whereon I now live also one feather bed and furniture, one pewter dish, one pewter bason, to him and his heirs forever, Item I give and bequeath my grand son Kinchen Crumpler one negro woman named Jenny, or a negro boy named Willis, to him and his heirs forever, Item I lend unto my loveing wife Martha all the remainder of my estate during her natural life both within and without doors; and after her death, to be equally divided between my son William Pierce my grand son John Pierce, my grand son Kinchen Crumpler, my grand son James Gay, and my grand son John Allen, to them and their heirs forever; I do appoint my son William Pierce and my grand son Kinchen Crumpler my hole [sic] and sole Executors to this my last Will and testament; and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, disannull all and every other former testaments, Wills, legacies, bequests, and Executors by me in any ways before named, willed, [and] [page break] [p.] (218) bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this to be my last Will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty ninth day of April, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and ninety one ~ Signed, Sealed and delivered} his in the presence of - - - } William + Pierce *LS* Joshua Crumpler } mark his } William X Coggan} mark } his } John + Coggan } At a Court held for Isle of Wight County the mark } 5.th day of December 1791 This Will was presented into Court by William Pierce one of the Executors therein named who made Oath thereto according to law, and the same being proved by the Oaths of William Coggan and John Coggan two of the witnesses thereto and Ordered to be recorded, And on the motion of the said Executor who together with John Coggan and William Coggan his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of two Thousand pounds with condition as the law directs Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat thereof in due form ~ Teste Fran:s Young Cl.Ct.
