I William Peirce of the County of Isle of wight being very Sick and weak in, or in perfect healthy of body, but or and of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given ["to" struck; "unto" inserted] God, Calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this my Last will & Testament, in manner and form as followeth, first it is my will and desire that my funeral expenses Should be paid. Impr.s I Give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Susanna all my estate both real & personal that is to say the plantion [sic] whereon I now live the bounds of the Land is as followeth begining at the Chappel Swamp at the old road thence up the said road dividing line to a pine tree of Thomas Hancocks, thence along the said Hancocks line to a post oak a Corner thence along a line of marked Trees to a pine Standing in the branch thence down the branch to the chappel Swamp thence down the said Swamp to the begining and first Station also my negro woman Conny, Mady, Jim, fanny & Joe, three beds and furniture three tables two chests one trunk one desk Ten Chairs one Spining wheel & cards all my kitchen furniture one Loom and all the harness three Carts & wheels, Geer &.c one mair two Cows & Calves and one heifer all my hogs of all kind my Still apple mill & press all my Cyder barrells; all my Cyder & brandy also my Corn fodder pease &.c all my hoes and frames axes & weading hoes, to her own disposal for ever _ and at her death to dispose of her Estate as it Suits her _ Item I Give & bequeath to my Daughter Nancy Coggin five Shillings Item I Give & bequeath to my son Arthur Peirce the Sum of [page break] [p.] 788 five Shillings Item I Give & bequeath to my son William Peirce the sum of five Shillings Item I Give & bequeath to my son Thomas Peirce the sum of five shillings Item I Give And bequeath to my son Mitcham Peirce the sum of five Shillings and I do appoint James Bridger and my wife Susanner my Sole Exor.s of this my Last will and testament & I do hereby revoke disannul and make Void all former wills & testament In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & fixed my Seal this the 11.th day of October 1803 ~ Signed Sealed & delivered} In Presence of - - - - - } William Peirce *Seal* Everitt Turner } his } John + Davis } mark } his } At a Court held for Isle of wight County the Benj.a + Carr} 5.th day of December 1803 This Will was mark presented into Court by Susanna Peirce the executrix therein named who made oath thereto According to Law, and the same being proved by the oaths of Everitt Turner, John Davis, & Benj.a Carr the witnesses thereto & ordered to [be] recorded ~ and on the motion of the said Exec.x who together with James Bridger her Security entered into & acknowledged their bond in the penalty of two Thousand dollars with Condition as the Law directs Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probat thereof in due form of Law ~ Teste Nath: Young CC Isle of Wight Co., VA, Will Book 11 (1794-1802), pp. 787-88 The Library of Virginia, Isle of Wight Co.
