ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - WILLS - Francis Wrenn, 15 Dec 1808 ----¤¤¤---- In the name of God amen. I Francis Wrenn of Isle of Wight County being weak in body but of Sound mind and memory, thanks be to God, do make and ordain this my last Will and testament in manner and form following to wit,-- I Give and bequeath to my loving wife Catharine Wrenn during her natural life, the plantation whereon I at present reside with all my negroes and their increase all the Stock consisting of Horses, Cattle, Sheep & Hogs, all the crop growing and housed, the plantation utensils, household and Kitchen furniture, and all property of every discription remaining and being on said plantation at the time of my decease (except money, bonds and open accounts) on this condition that the said property Shall be subject to the payment of one half my just debts, excepting the money yet due for the purchase of the land in Surry, of Col. William Bailey as executor of Thomas R. Blow decd (which claim is hereafter provided for) provided the money, bonds, and open accounts Shall not be sufficient to discharge all other claims-- I give and bequeath to my Brother Josiah Wrenn and his heirs forever The land and plantation purchased of Col. Wm Bailey executor of Thomas R. Blow and in Surry county together with all the crop, Stock and plantation utensils of every discription ??????ing and belonging to the said plantation at the time of my decease, on these express conditions that he Shall make payment of the balance yet remaining due for the said plantation, and that he do pay one half of any other Just debts, proved the money left in the house, together with the bonds & open accounts shall not be sufficient, the discharge of all other claims against me-- If the money bonds and open accounts left in the house Shall be more than sufficient for the purpose above mentioned the balance remaining I give and bequeath to my Sister Sarah Barlow and her heirs forever -- After the decease of my beloved wife Catharine, I give to my nephew William Barlow (son of my Sister Sarah Barlow) all my negroes with their increase, provided he live to the age of twenty one years, Should be die before that period the said negroes with their increase to be equally divided between the children of my Brother Josiah Wrenn should he have more that one child ?? not to go to his present son Josiah Francis.-- I will and desire that after the death of my beloved wife Catharine the land and all the property given her for her life (except the negroes above disposed of) be sold and the money arising from the sale thereof to be disposed of in the following manner to wit,-- To my Wife’s Sisters, Elizabeth Browne and Patsey Browne, I give two hundred dollars each thereof to them and their heirs forever-- To Nancy White and Thomas White children of my Wife’s sister Polly White I give four hundred dollars each, to them and their heirs forever. The balance remaining after paying the above legacies out of said Sale I give to my nephew William Barlow son of my sister Sarah Barlow above mentioned provided he lives to the age of twenty one years, in case of his death before that period to be disposed of in the same manner I have directed the negroes left him ­ It is my will and desire that my executor hereafter named Shall after the death of my wife Catharine, hold in his possession the property given to my nephew till he arrives to the age of twenty one years, appropriating the profits thereof toward his schooling and maintenance, and Should my said nephew said nephew die before he arrives to that age, then to deliver the said property to the child or Children of my brother Josiah Wrenn or their legal representatives to be divided as above directed. Lastly I constitute and appoint my friend Rowland Holt of Surry County my whole and sole executor to my Last Will & testament hereby revoking and annulling all all other Wills heretofore by me made—In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my own hand and affixed my seal the fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Eight ------- Signed & Sealed as my last Will and Francis Wrenn (Seal) Testament in presence of Joachim Michael, William E. Michael, Elizabeth Ines At a Court held for Isle of wight County the 6th day of March 1809. The foregoing Will was presented in court by Rowland Holt the executor therein named who made oath thereto according to law, and the same being proved by the oath of William E. Michael one of the witnesses thereto was continued for further proofs ­ and on the motion of the said executor who together with Robert ?. Fulgham and James Wilson his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of twenty thousand dollars with conditions as the law directs, certificate is granted him for Maining? probat thereof in due form ­ and at a Court held for the said County the 4th day of December 1809 the same will was fully proved by William E. Michail who made oath that he saw Joachim Michael subscribe his name as a witness, and was also proved by Joseph Jones who made oath that the name of Joachim Michael as Subscribed to the said Will is the handwriting of said Joachim Michael, and was ordered to be recorded ---- Teste Nathl Young CC Isle of Wight Co.
