Va Written: August 15 1772 Recorded: August 17 1772 York County.,Virginia ~ Deed Book 8 p. 275 – 276 Transcribed by Mary Jean Medlock Zimmerman (some capitalization added) THIS INDENTURE made the fifteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy two BETWEEN JOHN POWELL of the City of WILLIAMSBURG, Surgeon and LUCY POWELL Widow of SEYMOUR POWELL---of the one part and JOHN LAMB of the said city Carpenter of the other part~ WITNESSETH that for and in consideration of the sum of two Hundred Pounds current money by the said John Lamb to the said John Powell in hand paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt where of he doth hereby acknowledge and thereof acquit and discharge the said John Lamb his Executors and administrators~ They the said John Powell and Lucy Powell HAVE granted and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and align, release and confirm bargained ~~ sold align, releases and confirms unto said John Lamb his heirs and assigns forever all that piece, parcel, Lot of land lying and being on the North side of the Main Road, leading from the said City towards, York Town ~ in the Parish of Bruton and County of York and bounded as follows~ to wit, beginning on the South East Corner of the Lot lately sold by THOMAS POWELL to WILLIAM PRENTIS thence, down the road eighty two feet, thence northwardly parallel to the eastern bounds of the said Prentis lot fourteen poles to Mr. Benjamin WALLER’s line thence along his line westwardly eighty two feet to the said PRENTIS’s Lot and thence along his line southwardly, fourteen poles to the beginning and is part of the Lot described in the plan of the said City by the numbers 30 and 31, which said piece or parcel or Lot of land was devised to the LUCY by the Last Will and Testament of SEYMOUR POWELL, deceased and recorded in James City Court for her natural life or widowhood and then to said JOHN and his heirs forever. With all houses, buildings, railings and gardens ways, profits, advantages and appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging and the reversions and revisions, remainders and remainders thereof – with all the estate right ~ title and interests of them the said JOHN POWELL and LUCY POWELL or either of them of in and to the same or any part thereof~ To have and to hold the said piece parcel or lot of land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said JOHN LAMB his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Lamb his heirs and assigns forever. And the said JOHN POWELL for himself and his heirs the said piece, parcel or lot of land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said John Lamb his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim and ---of all and every other persons and persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof these parties have hereunto interchangeably set their hands and affixed their seals the Day and Year first above written.
