A copy teste: Richard Termstally? Ck. I do with the advice of the Council hereby certify that Benjamin Hoomes late a Captain in the 2nd Virginia Regiment, appears to have been disabled in such as manner while in the service of the United States as to entitle him to the sum of seventy two pounds yearly: which allowance is to commence from the 1st day of January 1786. Given under my hand as Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, at Richmond, this 10th day of June, 1786. Signed: P. Henry T. Meriwether At a Court held at King and Queen County on Monday the 12th day of June 1786: Benjamin Hoomes formerly a Captain in the 2nd Virginia Regiment in the service of the United States of America produced a certificate from under the hand of his Excellency, Patrick Henry Esq. that he is continued on the pension list with an allowance of half pay being seventy two pounds per annum. It is ordered that the said certificate be recorded and that the Sheriff of this County pay unto the said Benj. Hoomes thirty six pounds in part of said pension. A Copy teste: Robert Pollard D Clk. Gentelmen: Agreeable to a session of your Court in February, I have proceeded to examine into the disability of Captain Benj.Hoomes and John Marshall pensions and residents of this County: Captain Benj. Hoomes is still subject to the Epilepsy (or what is commonly called the falling down sickness) and the returns of it are frequent and the attacks of it are usually very violent and from sundry circumstances--it is very probable that this disease will accompany him for the rest of his life, it has likewise be productive of sundry other complaints-as particularly a general debility of body; which renders him unfit for any of the laborious exercises of life and the general injury done to the faculties of his mind has been such as to render him by no means adequate to the exercise of any function which requires a steady regular uniform (rest is cut off, continued on the next file with top part cut off, but signed by Joseph W. Lee February 20 1790 Hoomes' son Thomas acted in Benj.'s behalf to present a warrant for pension during the term of pension.
