KING GEORGE COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Thurston’s Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Thurston’s cemetery: 1937 Nov. 26 Research made by Julia Marie Heflin Cemetery Location: 7.4 miles northwest of King George, Va., on Route #3l; thence 2.1 miles west of Sealston, Va., and 1.6 miles south of Route #3 on private road. King George County, Virginia DATE: 1785. OWNERS: Unknown. DESCRIPTION: This cemetery is located near the Rappahannock River in a field and has been cultivated over. There are two stones at this grave, but both of these flag stones have the same date, but the name is broken off. Tradition is that this man died on a boat and was too far from home and was buried in this field near the edge of the Rappahannock River bank. The following inscriptions were copied from the two flag stones: Mr. Thomas Thurston --- 1785 ___________________ Died August 25, 1785, in the 28th year of his age. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: None.
