WARD for $1.00 consideration on the headwaters of Williams Creek and the south side of Powells Mountain as recorded in Lee County, Deed Book 21, pages 414 & 415. The deed is recorded as follows: "This Deed made the 2nd day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty five between SAMUEL WARD and ORPHA his wife of the County of Lee and State of Virginia of the first part and JAMES B. WARD of the County and state aforesaid of the 2nd part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar ($1.00) to him in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and the said given and will will toward their son JAMES B. WARD they the said SAMUEL WARD and ORPHA his wife doth grant unto the said JAMES B. WARD a certain tract of land lying and being in County of Lee and state aforesaid on the headwaters of Williams Creek and south side of Powells Mountain containing two hundred and forty nine (249) acres be the same more or less. (Description of boundaries given). The parties of the first part sayeth that the aforesaid land is not to be sold during their natural lives and that any land shall be used as a partnership form whereof it is necessary by either party and they the said SAMUEL WARD and ORPHA his wife doth commit that they will warrant generally the land hereby conveyed and willing signatures and seals.
