All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Brenda Reed brendahreed@sbcglobal.net June 27, 2008, 6:22 pm Wallens Creek, Lee Co., VA Written: April 13, 1903 13 April 1903: Deed from CATHARINE LUNSFORD to JAMES WARD JR. and BUENA VISTA WARD Lee County Virginia Deed Book 40: 280 - 281 "This deed made this 13th day of April 1903, between CATHARINE LUNSFORD of the County of Lee and State of Virginia, party of the first part and JAMES WARD JR. and BUENA VISTA WARD of the County and State aforesaid parties of the second part: Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Five hundred and seventy five dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the part of the first part two certain tracts or oparcels of land lying in the said County of Lee and State of Virginia and lying in or near the head waters of Wallens Creek and being a part of what was once known as the land that SAMUEL WARD SR. died seizedc and possessed and being a part of what the said SAMUEL WARD SR. deeded to his son JAMES B. WARD for reference see Deed of record in the Clerks office at Jonesvillle the same was layed off and assigned and plotted by W. P. DUFF and being the western portion of the said tract heretofore there was a trust deed given by JAMES B. WARD to MILTON REESE to satisfy certain claims for money loaned the said JAMES B. WARD one-half of the said amount of thirty acres is not included in this conveyance being the land that BUENA VISTA WARD now lives on but the L. D. WARD land is a part of this conveyance and the other part is an adjoining piece lying between this thirty acre tract and the top of Powels Mountain and beginning on the eastern line of the BUENA VISTA WARD land and running an extension of the said line to where it crosses the spur thence up the said spur to a white oak thence to a large hollow oplar thece westwardly to the top of Powels Mountain or where it might strike JAMES WARD JR. line and back down the mountain on the western side with the lines and degrees set forth in the deed made to JAMES B. WARD by his father SAMUEL WARD SR. and with the same as the beginning, this includes both the tracts of the JAMES WARAD JR and BUENA VISTA WARD this land is sold by the boundary and not by the acres. This conveyance is understood to convey the eastern portion to BUENA VISTA WARD and the western portion to JAMES WARD JR. tthey have agreed upon the lines between the two tracts. And the partys of the first part covenant with the parties of the second part that they will warrant the land generally hereby conveyed. Ward, son of James Bradley Ward anc Catherine Roberts. Buena Vista Ward was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Edens and his wife, Statira Shelor. Catherine Lunsford was born as Catherine Ward and was the sister of James Bradley Ward; they were the children of Samuel Ward and Orpha Bradley.
