Russell JONESVILLE -- Ethel Stanley Russell, 94, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at home, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong homemaker, Mrs. Russell offered a welcoming home, warm smile and country cooking to the hundreds of friends, family and strangers who appeared at her doorstep over the years. She touched the hearts of everyone who met her and was known affectionately as "Mamaw" and "Aunt Buck-Eye" to the generations who followed. A member of First Baptist Church of Jonesville, Mrs. Russell was a dedicated Christian witness. Born on Ramsey Ridge in Dickinson County on Aug. 26, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Elkanah and Nancy Jane Ramsey Stanley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cephus M. Russell; five sisters; and six brothers. She is survived by a son, Keith Russell of Jonesville; daughter and son- in-law, Rheta and Bob Humphrey of Jonesville; three grandchildren, David Hand and wife, Linda, of Pennington Gap, Va., Renia Clark and husband, Jim, of Jonesville and Vicki Russell Snodgrass and husband, Jay, of Jonesville; three great-grandchildren, Amy Clark of Wise, Jamie Clark of Charleston, S.C., and Heather Hand of Dryden, Va.; and countless nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home, Jonesville. Funeral servcies will follow at 8 p.m., conducted by Rev. James Meade and Rev. Don Jones. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. Arney-Mullins Funeral Home of Jonesville is in charge of arrangements for Ethel Stanley Russell.
