Pate Cemetery Location: 1 mile north of Poindexter, Virginia, on the Old Mountain Road – Route #640. .2 mile east of road. Louisa County James Watson, 1, was the first of the Watson line to come to this country from Scotland in the early 1700’s. He settled in Hanover County and later gave to his son James the land on which he built “Ionia”. The English General Ratleton is said to have camped under one of the large oaks on this estate in passing down the Old Mountain Road, which runs immediately by this home. On this estate there is an old family burying ground with markers inscribed as follows: George Watson M.D. Died Oct. 12th 1853 Aged 69 years Elizabeth Shelton Daughter of Dr. George and Annie Watson Born July 1st 1816 Died Feb. 26th 1864 Annie Watson Wife of Dr. George Watson Died Jan. 15th 1882 Aged 90 years
