Pate Cemetery Location: West of Trevilians, Virginia, .2 mile on Route #4, north .6 of a mile on Route #649, .2 of a mile east after crossing Rail Road, north 1.6 miles on a private road. Louisa County This land was first owned by the Melton family, who settled here over a hundred years ago. It remained in the possession of this family until sometime in the 1870’s. The Kiblingers were next owners, and it remained in the possession for a number of years. The graveyard is near the old home site, and is completely covered with periwinkle, and surrounded by tall pines. J. Averette Melton Born July 15th 1850 Died Apr. 2nd, 1860 Wm. L. Melton Born Aug. 1st 1819 Died Aug. 30th, 1856 Alfred T. Melton Born Nov. 5th 1811 Died May 30th 1861 Mary E. Melton Born July 20th 1821 Died Dec. 16th 1871 It is said that Mr. Alfred T. Melton, was employed by President Madison, while living at “Montpelia” and later moved to Louisa County and built his home. Professor Charles E. Melton, of Front Royal and Principal of Randolph Macon Academy is a descendant of this family.
