All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Watson http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00029.html#0007196 October 23, 2017, 5:49 pm Written: May 1, 1816 Recorded: June 10, 1816 John Poindexter to Thomson Heirs Louisa County, Virginia Deed Book M, p. 713-714 1 May 1816 This Indenture made this 1st day of May one thousand eight hundred and sixteen Between John Poindexter of the County of Louisa and State of Virginia of the one part and William Thompson (sic) of the State of South Carolina, Susanna Clack, Mourning Pryor, Elizabeth Newby ~ devisees under the last Will and testament of Thomas Thompson (sic) decd of record in the said County of Louisa, of the other part Witnesseth that whereas four hundred acres of land laying in the said County of Louisa was by the said last (sic will?) and testament devised by the said Testator to his widow for life, and which belonged to the Estate of the said testator, and by the said will at the death of the testators widow is directed to be divided as therein is specified and whereas the said four hundred acres of land did become forfeited to the Commonwealth of Virginia for the non payment of taxes due thereon and by an act of the legislature of the said State of Virginia, was directed and accordingly was sold agreeably to the provisions of the said law and the said John Poindexter, became the purchaser for the sum of Twenty nine Dollars & 30 cents being the amount of the Commonwealth demands and the expenses attending the sale and did receive a deed for the same executed by the Sheriff of the said County of Louisa which is of record in the Court of the said County – now this Indenture Witnesseth that that (sic) the said John Poindexter for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty nine dollars & 30 Cents hath bargained & sold unto the said William Thompson (sic), Susanna Clack, Mourning Pryor, and Elizabeth Newby ~ the said tract of Land containing four hundred acres be the same more or less and the said John Poindexter doth hereby Covenant and agree to and with the sd William Thomson and others above specified and with their Heirs or assigns that he will warrant and forever defend the title in fee Simple to the above granted lands and premises to the said Wm. Thompson (sic) and others above specified and his heirs, or any person or person Claiming by from or under him or either of them In Witness Whereof the said John Poindexter hath hereunto Set his hand & seal the day and year first above written.
