The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress after 7th June 1832 State of Virgin, Caroline County: To Wit At a court of monthly sessions held for the County of Caroline At Court House on the 9th day of July 1832, personally Appeared before the justices Richard Saunders a resident of the said County aged sixty-nine years, who being duly sworn according to Law oathdoth on his oath make the following declaration in order To obtain benefits of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed The 7th of June 1832. That he enlisted in the Army of the United States About February 1779 for the term of eighteen months in the town of Port Royal in the county of Caroline. That he marched from Fredericksburg Virginia, to Wilmington in the Company commanded by Captain Thomas (Hird): Was ordered South under Major Lewis and at Petersburg, Virginia, Was ordered to Savannah, Georgia in the Regiment commanded by Capt.Richard Parker and Captain Benjamine Taliaferro; after The siege of Savannah he returned to Augusta and took winter Quarters. In the spring of 1780,marched to Charlestown South Carolina Where he was taken prisoner and confined fourteen months. Some of which was on board a prisonship. In 1781, was shipped from Charlestown To Old James Town in Virginia, was exchanged and marched to Williamsburg here he was discharged. That from the time of his enlistment to the time of His Discharge was two years four months. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to a pension or an annuity except the present and he declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any other State (or any) in that of the agency of the state of Virginia. Sworn and subscribed to the day and year afare said. Richard Saunders And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion that the above Named applicant was a Revolutionary Soldier and served as he states. I, John S. Pendleton, Clerk of the County Circuit of Caroline do hereby certify that the foregoing contains the original Proceedings of the said Court in the matter of the application of Richard Saunders for a pension. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand And Seal of Office this 9th day of July 1832. John S. Pendleton
