Will of David Anderson, 1782, and related documents - Louisa Co. VA WB 2. P. 392 Louisa County, Va. David ANDERSON Nov. 1782 In the name of God Amon. I David Anderson of the County of Louisa and the Parish of Trinity being very sick and weak but of a sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testiment in manner and form following. I commend my soul into the hands of merciful Redeemer who gave it my body. To enter at the discretion of my Exors., hereafter named and as to worldly goods with which it has pleased Almighty God to bless me. I give as followeth. Item - I lend to my beloved wife Judith Anderson my whole estate both real and personal during her natural life in order to enable her to support and bring up my children. Item - My will and desire is that after the death of my wife that my land be equally divided between my following, four sons John. Charles Archilus & David at the discretion of my Exors. Which sd. part so I laid of I give to my sons to them and their heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to each of my sons as named above at the death of my wife one cow and calf & one sow and pig to be delivered to them by any Exors. Item - My will and desire is that as my daughters come of age or marries that my whole estate which I have lent my wife (except the land given my sons) be valued by my Exors., and that one fifth part be delivered to her and to the next that shall come of age or shall marry a fourth and so on to the last, all which parts I give to sd. daughters. Item - My will and desire in that the part remaining in the possession of my wife at her death be equally divided between my four daughters Mary, Sarah Susannah and Elizabeth. Item - I do constitute and appoint Capt. Joseph Shelton and Perrin Farrar Exors. to this my last Will and Testament revoking all other wills by me heretofore made. At a court held for Louisa County on Monday ye 8th day of October 1781. This will was this day exhibited in open court and proved by the oaths of Elizabeth Johnson and Elizabeth Johnson two of the witnesses thereto and by the court ordered to be certified and at a court held for this County at Louisa the 12th day of November 1781 Joseph Shelton and Perrin Farrar who were left Exor. To this this day certified under their hands that did not think it proper to qualify as Exors. to the will. Therefore on the motion of Judith Anderson widow to the ad. Administration is granted her with the will annexed who to the oath of Administratrix and entered into Bond according to law. Teste. Know all men by these presents that Judith Anderson, Robert Anderson and Zachariah Stanley are held and firmly bound unto Thomas Johnson Gent. the first justice in this Commission of the Peace for Louisa County for and in behalf and to the so_______ and behoof of the justices of the sd. County and their successors in the sum of two hundred thousand pounds to be paid to the sd. Thomas Johnson his Exors. . Admors.. and assigns To the which payment will and truly be made we bind ourselves and &very of us and every of our Heirs Exors. and Admors. jointly and severally firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our seals Dated this twelfth Day of November 1782. Ihe Condition of this Obligation is such that if the above Bound Judith Anderson Administratrix with the will Annexed of all the goods Chattels and Credits of David Anderson Dec'd. do make or cause to be made a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the sd. Dec'd. Which have or shall come to the hands Possession or knowledge of her the sd. Judith Anderson or into the hands or Possession of any other Person or Persons for her and the same as made do Exhibit or Cause to be Exhibited into the County Court of Louisa at such time as she shall be Thereunto Required by the sd. Court and the Same Goods Chattels and Credits and all other goods Chattels and credits of the sd. Dec'd. at the time of his death which at any time after Shall come into the hands or possession of the sd. Judith Anderson or into the hands and possession of any other person or Persons for her do Will and Truly Administer according to law and Further do make a Just and true account of her Actings and Doings therein whom Thereto Required by the sd. Court and all Rest and Residue of the sd. Goods Chattels and Credits which shall be found remaining upon the sd. Administrators Account The same being first Examined and allowed by the Justices of the Court for the time been shall Deliver and pay unto Such Person or Persons respectively as the sd. Justices by their Order or judgement shall Direct pursuant to the Laws in that Case made and Provided and if it shall hereafter appear that any Last Will and Testament was made by the sd. Dec'd. and the Exor or Exors Therein Named do Exhibit the same unto the sd. Court Making Request to have it allowed and Approved Accordingly if the sd. Judith Anderson being Thereunto Required do render and deliver up his Letters of Administration Approbation of Such Testament being first had and made in the sd.
