All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ==================================================================== Louisa County, VA Will Book 3 1783-1796, Pages 477-479 I Samuel Bell of the County of Louisa Being in a low State of health but yet of a Sound Mind and Memory do Constitute this to be my last Will and Testament and desire it may be Understood by all persons as Such Item 1st I will and desire that all my Just debts Shall be first paid Item 2d I lend unto my Loving Wife Molley Bell my Whole Estate consisting of Negroes Stock of all kinds household furniture and out Standing Debts Whatsoever, During the time of her Widowhood. Item 3 I give unto my Wife Molley Bell during her life one Negroe Wench by the name of Betty one horse Bridle and Sadle & one feather Bed and Furniture; and at her death this Negroe Agg with her Increase to be Returned & Equally divided between my three Children that is to say to James, John & Elizabeth Bell. Item 4th I give unto my son James, John and Daughter Elizabeth Bell my three Negroes Viz. Jane, Jack and Agge and all their Increase unto this three Children to be Equally divided between them if they should all live when my son James shall arrive to the age of Twenty one years, or at the Marriage of my Wife Molley Bell. Now I desire that incase any of my three children should depart this life Without any heir that the property of Whatsoever kind I have left them should be divide Equally Between those of them living. Item 5th I Will and Desire that at my Death my Negroe Wench Selah shall be fired on Conditions of her paying Unto my Estate the Sum of Thirty Pounds Current Money in five years after my Death, the above Mentioned Sum of Thirty pounds when Received to be given to my Wife Molley Bell for her own use. Item 6th Lastly I do appoint John A. Strange and Abner A. Strange Exors. To this my last Will In Witness Whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and fixed my seal this day of August 1791. Signed and Sealed Samuel Bell (Seal) In presence of Samuel Henson Benjamin Henson John Lasley At a Court held for Louisa County May 14th 1792 This Will was this day in Open Court Exhibited by John A. Strange & Abner A. Strange two of the Exors therein named and was proved by the Oaths of Samuel Henson & Benjamin Henson Witnesses thereto and by the Court is Ordered to be Recorded On the Motion of the Exors. named in this Will this day came into Court and took the Oath Appointed by Law: and Then Entered into and Acknowledged their Bond with Approved Security Conditioned as the law directs Whereupon on their Motion a Certificate is granted them for Obtaining a Probate thereon in due form. Know all men by these presents that we John A. Strange and Abner A. Strange are held and firmly bound unto Thomas Johnson Gent. The first Justice in the Commission of the Peace for Louisa County for an in behalf and to the Sole Use and Behoof of the Justices of this County & their successors in the Sum of one Thousand Pounds to be paid to this Thomas Johnson his Exors. Admrs. Or assigns to the Which payment will and truly to be made we bind ourselves and every of us our and every of our heirs Exors. And Admrs. Jointly and Severally firmly by these presents sealed with our Seals and dated this 14th day of may 1792. The Condition of this Obligation is Such that if the above bound John A. Strange and Abner A. Strange Executors of the last Will & Testament of Samuel Bell, Decd. do make or cause to be made, a true and perfect inventory of all and Singular the goods Chattles and Credits of this Decd. Which have or Shall come to the hands Possession or knowledge of this or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for the Same so made, do Exhibit unto the County Court of Louisa at such time they Shall be thereunto Required by this Court; and the same goods Chattles and Credits and all other the goods Chattles and Credits of this Decd. Which at any time After Shall Come to the hands possession or knowledge of this John A. Strange & Abner A. Strange or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for them do well and truly Administer According to Law and Further do make a Just and true Account of their Actings and doings therein When thereto required by this Court and also shall Well and truly pay and Deliver all the Legacies Contained and Specifyed in this Testament as far as these Goods Chattles and Credits Well thereunto Extend and the law shall Charge then this obligation to be Void and of none Effect or Else to Remain in full force and Virtue.
