Louisa Co., VA - Thomas Diggs Will, 1843 Louisa County, VA - Will Book 11 WILL BOOK 11, p. 81, Louisa County, Virginia: KNOW all men by these presents, that I Thomas Diggs of Louisa County State of Virginia being of sound mind & disposing memory do make this my last Will & Testament revoking all others. In the first place after my demise I wish that all my just debts should be payed. Secondly--I give and bequeath to the children of my son John Diggs dec. two negro men, named Frank and Wilson. I also hereby give & bequeath to the children of Thomas Diggs dec. the following negroes; to wit, a woman named Temperance, a man named Woodson, and boy called James. In addition to the above mentioned negroes I give to the children of my two sons dec. two boys, called Charles & Billy, to be equally divided between them. -- My daughter Lucy Holland having heretofore received her portion of my negroes, in this division I have made no provision for her on account of them. The residue of my estate not bequeathed above it is my will & desire should be sold by my executors, on a credit of 12 months the money arising from the sale of this property, I wish equally divided between Lucy Holland & the heirs & respresentatives of my sons John & Thomas Diggs. Lastly -- I do hereby constitute & appoint Nathaniel W. Diggs & Wm. M. Diggs executors of this my last Will & Testament. Given under my hand & seal this 13th day of April Eighteen hundred & forty three. SIGNED: Thos. Diggs Sr. WITNESSES: Reuben Gilbert, Thos. Johnson, Meriwether S. Hogard. At a Court of Quarterly Sessions held for Louisa County at the Courthouse thereof on Monday the 14th day of August 1843--The last Will & Testament of Thomas Diggs, Sr. decd. was this day presented in open Court, and was proved by the oaths of Thomas Johnson and Merewether S. Hoggard subscribing witnesses thereto and is by the Court ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Nathaniel W. Diggs and William M. Diggs executors named in the last Will and Testament of Thomas Diggs Sr. decd. who made oath according to law and together with Edward Poindexter William R. Hackett and Ellis G.
