Will of John Gardner, 1791 Louisa County Will Book 3, Page 408 [pagination maintained from court record] In The Name of God Amen I John Gander of Louisa County Being weak in body but sound in Memory do make and Constitute this my last Will and Testament First my Will and Desire is that all my Just Debts Should be paid and after that I Dispose of my Estate as Followeth To Wit the land that lies in Spotsylvania whereon my John Gardner and Thomas Gardner now lives to be Equal =ly Divided Between Them to son that now has pofsefsion to them and their heirs forever Item I give and Bequeath to my son William Gardner Twenty Acres of Land part of the tract Calld Schoolers place to him and his heirs forever. Item I will that the land I now live on Should be Sold and the Money to be equally Divided between my five Daughters to wit Elizabeth Thomson Kesiah Hendrick Sallay Hiett Lucy Allen Temparence Gammon To them and their heirs forever Item my Will and Desire is that all the rest of my personal Estate at the Decease of my self & my wife should be sold and Equally Divided among my two sons & five Daughters above mentioned only my grand daughter [Note: 3 sons mentioned above] Molley Thomson to have a good Horse & Saddle out of it I do hereby Ratify and Confirm this my last Will and Testament I do hereby appoint James Hendrick Jeremiah Chandler Stephen Hiett E'cors to settle my Estate this is my true Wish & Desire Made this day of one Thousand seven Hundred Ninety one. Whereupon Mary Gardner Widow of thesd John Gardner Come into Court and Objected to thesd Decedents Will & the provisions for her therein made therefore tis Ordered that Enos Tate Zinny Tate Thoms Gooch & Garrett Minor or any three of them do Allot & lay of one third part of thesd Decedents Estate as her dower & make report to Court.
