I Thomas May of the County of Louisa and State of Virginia, being of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, therefore Calling to mind the uncertainty when death shall happen to me and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to dye and for the better Settlement of my worldly affairs do make and constitute this my last will & Testament. Item, I give and bequeath my Soul to Almighty God who first gave it me, my body to be earth to be buried in a Christian like manner in hopes of a joyful meeting & reuniting again by the almighty power of God, at the great and General resurrection to life eternal, and that I shall be found in Christ the only redeemer of mankind and thru his precious merits and mediation receive a General pardon of all my Sinful crimes and a happy admission into his heavenly kingdom, and as for what worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I give (after my Just debts and funeral expences are first paid), in manner and form following - Item, I give to my loving Son Allen May my bay mare to him and his heirs. Item. I give to Squire May one Shilling and no more of my estate. Item. I give to my loving Son Allen May the land whereon I now live and for him to take care of his mother during her life, as also I give to him my Son Allen the residue part of my Estate of every kind and denomination whatsoever during my wife his mothers life, and at her death it is my will & desire that my Son Noel May should have thirty acres of my land as also its my will and desire that my daughter Lucy May should have fifteen acres as also that my daughter Polley Burton should have fifteen acres. Item It is my will and my desire that after the death of my wife my Son Allen May should give to my daughter Nancy Shields one Cow. Item It is my wish and desire that he, my Son Allen should give to my Granddaughter Sarah Shields one Cow. Item as I have given my mare to my son Allen May it is my desire that if he should trade her away that my daughter Lucy should then have her, the sd. Mare. The last will and Testament of Thomas May decd. was produced in open Court and proved by the oaths of Jonathan Turner and Hardin Chambers Subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of Allen May the executor therein named who made oath as the Law directs and together with James Gooch his Security entered into and acknowledged his bond in the penalty of $300 Conditioned as the Law directs, a certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat thereof in due form.
