Will of Thomas Morris, 1856 - Louisa Co. VA Bk 15 p 219 In the name of God amen: I Thomas Morris of the County of Louisa and state of Virginia being in the enjoyment of good health both of body and mind and wishing to avail myself of the privilege of disposing of my property agreeably to my wishes, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, viz: Article 1st. It is my wish after my death that my body to be decently buried in the family burying ground. Article 2. After the payment of my funeral expenses and all my just debts I loan to my wife, Sally Morris so long as she remaineth my widow, my whole estate to be managed by my executor for her benefit and for the benefit of my two daughters Amanda Morris and Sally Ann Morris and my grandchildren Pompey A. Bell, Nancy S. Bell, Malinda B. Bell, John A. Bell and Betty C. Bell. Article 3. I give to my daughter Frances Morris or her heirs one dollar to be paid by my executor as the full amount of her or their legacy. Article 4. I give to the heirs of my daughter Elizabeth Keesaer, decd, one dollar to be paid by my executor as the full amount of their legacy. At the death of my wife I give to my daughter Amanda Morris one equal third portion of my estate both real and personal. Article 6th. At the death of my wife I give to my daughter Sally Ann Morris one equal third portion of my estate both real and personal. Article At the death of my wife I give to my grandchildren Pompey A. Bell, Nancy S. Bell, Malinda B. Bell, John A. Bell and Betty C. Bell one equal third portion of my estate, to be equally divided between them, or so many of them as may then be living. Article 8th. At the death of my wife I give to my daughte Sally Ann Morris at fair valuation my negro woman Mary Thomson and her increase- this gift to form a portion of her legacy in conformity with Article 6th. Article 9th. At the death of my wife I give to my grandson John A. Bell at fair valuation- my tract of land known as Clayton’s old store lying and being in the County of Louisa. This gift to form a portion of his legacy in conformity with Article 7th. Article 10th. I reserve in my home tract of land one eighth of an acre of land as a family burying ground to be enclosed with good timbers. Article 11th. I hereby appoint Edmond P. Wood as my executor with the request that he will qualify as such and should he fail to comply with this request it is my wish that Richard H. Biggers will qualify in his stead and carry out the provisions of this my last will and testament all of which I acknowledge in the presence of these witnesses and have caused my hand and seal to be affixed hereunto this the 14th day of June A. Battaille Charles Timberlake At the court of monthly session held for the County of Louisa at the Courthouse thereof on Monday the 12th day of May 1862. The last will and testament of Thomas Morris, decd. was this day exhibited in open court and was partly proved by the oath of Charles Timberlake one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and is ordered to be continued for further proof by the oath of B. A. Battaile, the other subscribing witness thereto and by the court ordered to be recorded- And on the motion of Edmond P. Wood, the executor named in the last will and testament of Thomas Morris, decd., who made oath as the law directs, and together with Robert S. Ellis and James H. Woolfolk his securities who justified an oath as to their sufficiency, entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of twenty eight thousand dollars conditioned as the law requires- a certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of said will in due form- which said bond is ordered to be recorded.
