HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This monument which reads as follows: This monument is erected to the memory of Anna M. Cameron Daughter of Revd. Doctor John Cameron and Anna his wife. She was born the 9th of April 1787 and departed this life the 21st of July 1810. Piety toward God, duty to her parents, affection for her Brothers & Sisters were the characteristicks of her short, but well spent life. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord! Beside this tomb, are deposited the remains of Margaret M. Cameron infant and Elizabeth Anderson Daughter of Daniel Anderson, Petersburg. Reverend John Cameron, a native of Scotland, was rector of Cumberland Parish from 1796 until his death in 1815. He married September 1, 1783, Ann Owen Nash of Charlotte County, Virginia whose ancestry was notable. She was a daughter of Colonel Thomas Nash, and his wife, Mary Read, a niece of Governor Abner Nash, and General Frances Nash, of North Carolina, both distinguished in the Revolutionary War. She was also a niece of Clement Read, first County Clerk of Lunenburg County, Virginia. Elizabeth Anderson, whose remains are deposited in the cemetery, was a grand- daughter of Reverend John Cameron, being the daughter of Mary Read Cameron and Daniel Anderson, who married August 19, 1797. It is not known why this site was chosen for the Cameron Cemetery, for in 1810, this plantation was owned by George Craig whose family seems in no way connected with the Cameron family.
