Seay Cemetery Location: Southeast of Kenbridge, Virginia, about 9.6 miles. Go southeast 6.9 miles on Route #637 to the junction of #637 and Route #638, thence .1 mile southeast on Route #698 to the junction of Routes #698 and #613, thence 1.1 mile east on Route #613 to the junction of Routes #613 and #612, thence .7 mile south on Route #612, thence about .5 mile south on a private road, thence through a field about .3 mile on south side of the private road. Lunenburg County, Virginia DATE: 1736 OWNERS: William Taylor bought 200 acres of land from William Williams, “being a part of that tract of land granted the said William Williams by Settlers patent, bearing date the sixteenth day of August 1736.” Deed Book 6, page 94. Consideration thirteen pounds, lawful money of Virginia. William Taylor bought 200 acres of land from William Williams, which land “was granted to William Williams by patent under the Colony Seal, bearing date the sixteenth day of August 1756.” Consideration, twenty pounds current money of Virginia. Deed Book 6, page 257. William Taylor bought 427 acres of land from Jonathan Patterson, of New Kent County, Virginia, “being the land Jonathan Patterson purchased of Turner Hunt Christian.” Consideration four hundred and fifty pounds current money of Virginia. Deed Book 9, page 264. Martha Waller Taylor, 1820, 288 acres and dwelling, Will Book 8, page 171. Edmund F. Taylor, 288 acres and dwelling, 1828. Will Book 8, page 171. Everard W. Gee, about 1840. David S. Garland, 1850, 285 acres, consideration one thousand dollars, good and lawful money of Virginia. Deed Book 35, page 114. Henry Jones Martha and John Rice, present owners since about 1927. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This cemetery is separated from the Taylor Cemetery by a stone wall, and is about fifteen feet square, and is enclosed by a stone wall, about three feet high, similar to that of the Taylor Cemetery. Within, the cemetery is covered with periwinkle. There are two graves marked with stones having inscriptions. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The inscriptions on the tombstones which are as follows: Mrs. Rebecca C. Gee Died Nov. 5, 1843 Aged 52 years 8 months 15 days Thomas W. Gee Son of E.W. & R.C. Gee Born the 30th day of Sep. 1832 Died the 17th day of April 1849 Aged 16 years, 7 months Everard W. Gee, who owned the property about ten years, married March 27, 1828, Rebecca C. Gee, whose grave is in the cemetery. From the county records, it is learned that he served as Sheriff from 1828 to 1835. His second wife was Martha B. Marble, whom he married, December 20, 1844. Then he sold the property in 1850 he was described as a resident of Greenbrier County, Virginia. It is learned from Deed Book 31, page 19, that Edmund F. Taylor was residing on the property in 1839, and from an inscription on a tombstone it is learned that Everard W. Gee’s wife was buried here in 1843.
