All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Margaret Ogilvie scopete@msn.com September 9, 2006, 3:22 pm Written: June 11, 1795 Recorded: June 11, 1795 Deed Thomas and Jane Garrett to Blackstone Abernathy 11 June 1795 Lunenburg County, Virginia Deed Book 17, p. 57 This indenture made this 11th day of June in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and ninety-five between Thomas Garrett and Jane his wife of the County of Lunenburg of the one part and Blackston Abernathy of the same county of the other part, withesseth that the said Thomas & Jane for and in consideration of the just and full sum of one hundred and twenty pounds current money if Virginia to the said Thomas & Jane in hand paid by the said Blacston at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents a receipt whereof the said Thomas and Jane do hereby acknowledge from the said Blackston and thereby do fully exonerate him therefore, do hereby bargain sell enfeoff deliver and confirm unto the said Blackston Abernathy his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Lunenburg on Meherrin River and bounded as follows, to wit. Beginning at Renison Tisdale’s corner poplar on the river thence up said river as it meanders to a large corner rock on Hawkins’ line thence along the said Hawkins line to a corner poplar on the creek thence up the said creek as it meanders to John Tisdale’s corner dogwood thence along the said Tisdale’s to a corner oak on the branch then up the said branch to Rennison Tisdale’s corner dogwood thence along the said Tisdale’s line to a corner hickory thence along said Tisdale’s line to the beginning containing by estimation one hundred and sixty acres of land be the same more or less together with all woods underwoods [?] water water courses houses fences and orchards with all and every appurtenaces in any manner thereunto belonging or in any wise thereunto annexed and we the said Thomas and Jane his wife as for ourselves our heirs Exors dowrs covenant to and warrant and forever defend the rights and title and peaceable enjoyment of the above bargained & sold lands unto the said Blackstone Abernathy his heirs & assigns forever in fee simple to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Blackstone Abernathy his heirs and assigns forever against us our heirs Exors admrs & assigns & against the lawful claim or demand of all & every other person or persons whatsoever. In witness we the said Thomas Garrott and Jane his wife hath hereunto set our hands and seals the day and year first above written. Signed sealed and delivered His In presence of Thomas x Garrott Mark Her Janne x Garrott Mark At a court held for Lunenburg County the 11th day of June 1795 Thomas Garrott acknowledged the within written indenture which was ordered to be recorded, and Jane Garrott the wife of the said Thomas came into court and being first privily examined as the law directs voluntarily relinquished her right of dower in and to the land and premises conveyed by the within indenture which was also ordered to be recorded.
