Bufords Detachment Lunenberg County September 25 1809: I hereby certify that I became acquainted with Tschaner DeGraffenreidt in the spring 1779 and continued with him till the time of Bufort's Defeat in May 29 1780 at which time were were paroled and if exchanged I do not know it. Given under my hand as above Signed: Jn Crute I hereby cetify that Tschaner Degraffenreidt was a soldier in the Army- Continental Army 1776. Signed: ? ? Simon? Capt. in the 6th Va Regiment I do certify that I have examined the wounds of Tscharner Degraffenreidt jr. of the County of Lunenberg said to have been received in the battle between the troops of America and Britian in the _____ settlement between Col. Buford and Col. Tarlton (I commonly called Buford's Defeat) and it is my opinion that the said wounds render the said Tscharner Degraffenreidt incapable of obtaining his livelihood by manual labor. Given under my hand this 22nd day of December 1787 Signed: Clark Sanford I do with the advice of Council hereby certify that Tschaner DeGraffenreidt, aged about 35 years, late a Serjeant in the detachment of the Virginia Line commanded by Abraham Buford, appears to have been disabled in such a manner while in the service of the United States by several dangerous wounds both in his body, head and arms as to entitle him to the sum of eighteen pounds yearly; which allowance is accordingly made him, to commence from the first day of January 1782.
