Given under my hand this 28 day of June, 1787. John Bradnax, then Capt. of Militia On examination of the above mentioned person find his right hand in greatly cut away and what fingers remain are of very little service so that he has no benefit of that limb and it is totally disabled from obtaining a living by hard Labour. He appears to be about twenty eight years of age. W. Foushes, surg.--June 4, 1787 I do with the advice of the Council hereby certify that Edward Lewis, aged about 28 years, late a private in the Lunenburg County Militia, was wounded in in the service of the United States and that he is allowed the sum of 15 pounds yearly, commencing from the first of Jan. 1786.
