Lunenburg County VA - Pattie Williams Fowlkes - Obituary, 1926 Obit:Contributed by JoLee Gregory Spears spearsj@bellsouth.net 1997 =========== IN MEMORY OF MRS. M. A. FOWLKES Pattie Williams Fowlkes, born June 29, 1849, died August 25, 1926, was married to Mr. M. A. Fowlkes. Not having any children she adopted Eva May Fowlkes, who in mature years, became the happy bride of Mr. H. G. Fore. Ten children born to this union. While this was her only child she reared two sisters and a brother of the same family. Mattie, Berta and Clarence. Also a nephew and niece, Guy and Ruby Williams. She was loyal to her people and friends, and had much respect and kindness shown her during several months of illness. The burial services were conducted from Mount Zion Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Interment in Church Cemetery. In the absence of her pastor, Rev. Robert Shadwick, Baptist minister of Victoria, and Rev. Harwood officiated in a most beautiful and impressive manner. A large concourse of people gathered to pay the last tribute of respect and the floral offerings were many and beautiful. Our sympathy is expressed for her beloved husband and sister, Mrs. Collins, and all her loved ones. In our prayer meetings the writer has heard her repeat the beautiful Scripture "I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that Which I have committed unto Him against that day." "We shall meet in that land far far away, When this life and its cares are all o'er; In that beautiful land far away, We shall meet there forever more." Mrs. J. R.
