OWNERS: On January 16, 1824, the Elders of the Presbyterian Church bought a site for the location of the Presbyterian Cemetery, which was the entire block 2000 Grace Streets, lying between Ann and Globe Streets. DESCRIPTION: (blank) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The first person to be buried there was Dr. James Brown, who died April 25th, 1824. 1. In 1931 a monument was erected at Dr. Brown’s grave. Among the people of note buried in this cemetery are the following: 2. Captain Thomas A. Holcombe, Father of Temperance in Virginia, who died October 31, 1843. 3, Alexander McDonald, Minister to Persia, Died December 15, 1897. 4. Alexander Liggett, Founder of De Molay commandery #4, Knight’s Templar, Son- in-law of John Lynch, died July 6, 1861. 5. Mrs. Samuel Tyree, grand-daughter of Patrick Henry, Author of “House-Keeping in Old Virginia”, January 12, 1912. 6. Hon. Peter J. Otey, Member of Congress, died May 8, 1902. 7. Flat Marble Slab over the grave, 12 ft. long; 3 ft. wide Thomas S. Brown Died Aug. 20th 1835 The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear the Lord. 8. Vault slab (marble) on upright base, 10 ft. long, 3 ft. wide. Base is 2 ½ feet high Erected by Caroline E. Selden In memory of her beloved consort Samuel M. Selden who died July 14th, 1849 aged 34 years In life he was loved, In death lamented. He reposes in the Lord. 9. Sacred to the memory of Elisha Keen who died Jan’y 16th, 1844 in the meridian of his life. May his soul rest in peace. Marble slab 10 ft long, 3 ft wide lying on the grave: 10. Leslie Selden Miller Infant son of Decatur H. & Eliza C. Miller Born June 24, 1852 Died July 6, 1854 Marble cradle with upright head; cradle 3 ft long 1 ft wide Upright head 24 inches high. 11. James B. Renwick 1853 Marble monument 18 ft high on marble slab 8 feet long and 3 feet wide 12. Sacred to the Memory of Mary A. Doland consort of James Doland who departed this life Jan. 3rd, 1847 Aged 47 years Flat marble slab 8 feet long built on marble base 2 feet high 13. In memory of James Doland A native of Ireland Died Oct. 23rd, 1817 (?) Aged 49 years Marble monument 18 feet high 14. Upright Marble monument inscribed: Robert S. Slaughter Born October 27, 1817 Died April 7, 1831 15. Upright marble monument inscribed: James P. Slaughter Born July 5, 1853 Died July 30, 1853 16.
