Alexandria Gazette, Jan 1, 1900, P. 2
Caskie Burton, a well known young man of Lynchburg, was drowned Saturday while
skating on the river. A large crowd was on the ice when Burton broke through,
and scores of excited people watched his struggles for about five minutes before
he sank. Every effort was made to save him.
