MADISON COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Aylor Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Aylor graveyard: 1937 June 1 Research made by Evelyn W. Tunison Cemetery Location: West of Novum Post Office, Virginia, on Route #606, ¾ mile; thence south 100 yards to the graveyard on the hill. Madison County, Virginia DATE: Unknown. OWNERS: This is part of the original Aylor land. This old graveyard is now in the possession of Mr. J.S. Henshaw. (1937) DESCRIPTION: This graveyard has probably a dozen graves. At one time it was fenced with slab palings. There is nothing left of the fence, leaving it out in a cultivated field, and it is covered with honeysuckle and bushes. There is no inscription on the field stones for markers. The graves are badly sunken. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Thomas Aylor and wife Louisa and others in the Aylor family are known to be buried here. It is thought that Jacob Aylor and his ancestors were buried here, as the old Aylor house was nearer this site than the other graveyard. SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informants: Mrs. T.L. Carpenter, Haywood, Virginia Mrs. Vergie Aylor Weaver, Haywood, Virginia. They are direct heirs of the Aylor’s. Visit by worker. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
