MADISON COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Andrew Gaar Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Andrew Gaar graveyard at Loronza: 1937 Mar. 25 Research made by Mrs. Evelyn W. Tunison Cemetery Location: 5 miles east of Haywood, Virginia, on Route #609, at Gaar Run bridge on south side of Route #609. 300 yards northwest of the old house site. Madison County, Virginia DATE: 1824. OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is located on a hill 300 yards north of the house site. The lot is possibly 50 foot square with large trees on the side. The fence is of well formed rocks three feet thick, and three feet tall. Bushes cover the entire lot. There are about 30 graves, only two of these have stones with inscriptions, one of which has fallen with the inscription on bottom side and could not be lifted. The remainder of the graves are only marked with rock slabs. There originally was a rock wall around this, however, today it is down and many of the rocks have been hauled away for other purposes. In other words this spot is in a neglected condition for an old graveyard, not even a fence around it, however the buttercup and periwinkle covers the outside edges of this lot.
