Tunison Cemetery Location: .5 mile from Novum P.O. Virginia, on Route #606, second gate from post office on north side of the road. Madison County, Virginia DATE: Unknown. OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: The graveyard which is located some distance northwest of the house, is without markers to the graves. There is no fence around any part of it. Part of the graveyard is badly grown up in trees and bushes, the other part is in cultivation. Also in connection with this graveyard is the slave graveyard which is part of the Murray burying ground. Mr. Murray was a large slave owner and those who died while in his ownership were buried here. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This graveyard is known to have five generations of Murray’s, Hitt’s and Yowell’s buried here, without anyone knowing which grave is which.
