Tunison Cemetery Location: 200 yards northeast of Haywood, Post Office, Virginia; thence north on Route #603. First house on the west. Madison County, Virginia DATE: 1826. OWNERS: (Blank) DESCRIPTION: The original Twyman graveyard is about one mile north of the house, situated on a beautiful knoll. It is about fifty yards square with a four foot rock wall around it. The only way one can enter is to climb over the top. There are trees in this graveyard sixteen inches in diameter, also bushes and briers. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: One stone has only this on it: S. Twyman Departed 1826 Anthony Twyman Born February 2, 1779 Died May 4, 1858 James W. Twyman Born Sept. 25, 1818 Died 1879 The other stones all have dates since 1890. And there are some graves which have no inscriptions. It is generally known that this graveyard was started before Mr. Anthony Twyman built his mansion, as it was spoken of in that day.
