Deed Transaction: Francis Thornton to Rowland Yowell Madison Co., Virginia, Deed Book 11, p. 91-2 [LDS Microfilm # 0032584] Recorded 22 March 1832 This Indenture made this 27th day of February in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty two between Frances Thornton of the County of Spotsylvania and State of Virginia of the one part and Rowland Yowell of the County of Culpeper of the other part Witnesseth that the said Frances Thornton in consideration of one dollar of lawful money to him in hand paid by the said Rowland Yowell, at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold, and by these presents, doth bargain and sell, unto the said Rowland Yowell, his heirs and assigns a certain tract or portion of land, situate in the counties of Madison and Culpeper and state of Virginia, containing two hundred and fifteen and a half acres, be the same more or less, which said tract or parcel of land has been -------, to said Frances Thornton, William S. Jones and Elizabeth G. Dunbar, by a decree of the high Court of Chancery for the Fredericksburg district in a cause then pending between the heirs of the late Mrs. Mary Champe for a division of his real estate of which she died seized, and to which the said Frances Thornton, William S. Jones and Elizabeth G. Dunbar with ------ was entitled by descent all which will more fully appear by --------- to the documents and decrees in said cause, and deed from said William S. Jones and Elizabeth G. Dunbar to said Francis Thornton, together with all the rights, privileges and appurtenances, thereto belonging to him the said Rowland Yowell, his heirs and assigns to have and to hold forever, and the said Francis Thornton for himself and his heirs and assigns the said tract of land, with all and singular the promises and appurtenances unto the said Rowland Yowell his heirs and assigns free from the claim or claims of him the said Francis Thornton, his heirs and assigns and of all and every person or persons whatsoever, shall, will and do warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said Francis Thornton has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year above written. F. Thornton {seal} Signed sealed and delivered In presence of Culpeper County to wit We, John Turner and William Walden, Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Frances Thornton &c., a party to a certain deed bearing date the 27th day of February 1832 and hereunto annexed, personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Madison, in order that the said deed may be recorded.
