Madison Co., VA - Deed: James Ward to Rowland Yowell - 1819 Deed transaction: James Ward and Ann his wife to Rowland Yowell Madison Co., Virginia, Deed Bk. 6, p. 363-4 [LDS Microfilm # 0032582] Recorded 17 June 1819 This Indenture made this twenty third day of November one thousand eight hundred and eighteen, between James Ward and Ann his wife of the County of Madison and Commonwealth of Virginia of the one part, and Rowland Yowell of the County and Commonwealth aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James Ward and Ann his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to them in hand paid by the said Rowland Yowell the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and themselves therewith fully satisfied and paid, have bargained and sold given and transferred and by these presents do bargain sell give transfer and confirm unto the said Rowland Yowell his heirs and assigns two certain parcels of Lands lying in the Counties of Madison and Culpeper and bounded as followeth (Viz) Beginning at a yew pine maple chesnut oak and white oak standing on the SW side of Hughes river & on the NE side of Hughes river road, thence up said road N. 80 W 16 poles to a dogwood on the --- side of the aforesaid road, thence up the same N. 88 W 22 Poles thence N. 77 W. 27 Poles to a double white oak and dogwood on --- said of the aforesaid road, thence up the said road N. 80 W 6 poles to a chesnt ash and bunch of Maples on said side of said road and on the SW bank of the aforesaid river, thence down the several courses of the same N. 17 E 10 poles thence N 42 E 6 poles, thence N 61 E 13 poles, thence S 85 E 12 poles thence N 70 E 22 poles thence N 80 E 18 poles thence N 66 E 25 poles thence S 59 E 14 Poles thence S 12 E 20 poles thence S 5 E 9 Poles thence S 12 W 4 Poles thence S E 6 poles to the Beginning, including one parcel of said land, the other parcel Beginning at a gum and white oak standing on the NE side of Hughes river corner to Alex'r Rider, thence with his line N 23 E 162 Poles to two chesnut oaks on a path corner to s'd. river and in patent line thence with the patent line S 47 30 E to Benjamin Lillard's corner thence with his line to the aforesaid river, thence up the s'd river the several courses thereof to the Beginning containing ninety acres (more or less) with all the estate rights title and interest whatsoever thereunto belonging, and the s'd. James Ward & Ann his wife shall and will warrant & by these presents forever defend the s'd. land & premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto him the s'd. Rowland Yowell his heirs and assigns forever, freed and cleared exonerated and discharged from all former rights and titles whatsoever. James James Ward Lewis Yowell Benjamin Lillard Madison County Court Clerks office April the 15th day 1819 This Indenture of bargain and sale between James Ward and Ann his wife of the one part and Rowland Yowell of the other part was produced into the office and proved by the oaths of Benjamin Lillard and Dr. Benjamin Lillard and on the 28th of May 1819 was fully proved in the office by the oaths of John Weakley Junr., wherefore the same was admitted to record.
