I, John Wait of the county of Madison and State of Virginia being now in a low state of Health but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to god: therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it's appointed for all men once to die I do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of almight god that gave it; and as for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a christian like manner at the direction of my executors, not doubting but at the General resurrection I shall raise the same by the almighty power of God; and as for my wordly estate as it hath been pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give demise and dispose of the same manner and form following, ? I lend to my beloved wife Kezia Wait, the lot of land containing one hundred acres under lease from Beverly & during the lives of Wm. Clark; Reuben Clark and Joseph Clark, and being the place whereon I now live, and at the death or intermarriage of my wife Kezia Wait, it is my will and desire that the lot of land become the porperty of my beloved son Benjamin Wait and to him his heirs and assigns forever. I hope that my wife will keep our daughter Ann Blake Wait with her during their joint lives. Item all the residue of my estate I lend to my Beloved Wife Kezia Wait during her widowhood, and should she marry I desire that the whole of my property (the lot of land which I live on excepted) to be sold and for my wife to have one third part of the amount of sales during her life: and at her death to be applyd in manners herin directed. Item, It's my desire that my executors at the death or intermarriage of my wife: pay unto my daughter Ann Blake Wait the sum of one hundred dollars out of my estate; also my daughter Ann at the same time is to have a bed and furniture out of my estate. Item, at the death of my Wife Kezia Wait I desire that Joseph Wait have a bed and furniture, and that Benjamin Wait have at the same time a bed and furniture. Item-I give to my following children Sarah Levell wife of James Levell, John Wait, Obed Wait, and Jesse Wait, and to be paid them by my executors at the death of my wife the sum of one Shilling Sterling to each of them and their heirs. Item, Its's my desire that all the residue of my estate after my Just debts are paid be equally divided between my following children at the death of my wife. Niz---Mary Wait, the wife of my Decd son George Wait--Hannah, wife of my Dec. Son Edward Wait, George Cowgill, who married my daughter Phebe, Henry Stonsiffer who married my daughter Elizabweth, and to them and their heirs forever--I do constiture and appoint my friend Ambrose Clark my executor, and my beloved wife Kezia Wait executrix of this my last will & testament. in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 16th day of April 1801 Sealed Sign, & delivered in precence of us Henry Latham John Wait Seal George Clark George Ford At a court held for Madison County on the 24th day of September 1801__ This last will and Testament of John Wait Deceased was exhibited into court, and proved by the oaths of Henry Latham & George Ford, witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded--and upon the motion of Ambrose clark--an executor therin named, a Probate thereof in due form is granted him, he having made oath thereto, ? entered into Bono with Security according to Law--and Kezia Wait, the executrix therin named refusing to take upon herself, the burthen of the execution of the said will Test John Walker, Junior Clerk
